Anyone have a Crane animal humidifier?

We want to get a new humidifier for M's room, and Crane has some really cute ones shaped like animals. The reviews on amazon are mixed. Does anyone have one, and can you tell me what you think of it?

  • We have the elephant one and I like it.  No complaints.  You don't have to use a filter but I do.

  • We have the elephant too and it works just fine.  We only use it in the spring/summer though, and a warm mist in the winter.

  • Ooh - good question. The old humidifier I have in T's room seems to be crapping out and doesn't always work, so I'd love to replace hers with a cute animal if they actually work :)

  • Are the animals one hard to clean and how often do you have to clean them?  Do the reservoirs get gunky really fast?

We need a second humidifier and I'm interested to hear your experiences with them.

  • we had the penguin and while it is adorable, I did not like it because I found it next to impossible to clean. I tried both white vinegar and bleach and neither one got the mold out of the reservoir. And because of the shape, I couldn't up where most of the mold was to scrub it--very frustrating.

We just bought this new one from Target a couple weeks ago:

We're happy with it so far and the reservoir has a nice, big opening so it will be easy to clean if mold builds.

  • Mold build-up does not sound good.

But that Vicks humidifier only got 1.8 out of 5 stars. Maybe there is no perfect humidifier. I know I'm not thrilled with the one we currently have.

yeah, I saw that...this was an un-researched purchase from Target ;-) but so far I do like it a lot better than I ever liked the penguin (discounting the cuteness factor!).

  • We have the frog. It does work well but it needs to be elevated 2 feet off the ground. It creates a fog pretty much (looks cool) but it needs the elevation for it to do any good.

My only complaint is that the thing is hard to clean.  I've ready some people's recommendations and I just haven't set down and applied any of what I've read yet...Where we are, we get that gross pink build up with hard water stains and the water container kind of has that tint now.

My DH has actually been having this next to his side of the bed lately haha.

ETA that I am writing like my husband...with a southern accent.  ACK. "set down" should obviously be "sat down." gah. Left for your entertainment!

  • I've used the frog and the penguin in my research lab. well the frog until my boss stole it to use for his kid. The penguin has been running strong for about 2 years now. not constant use but pretty periodic throughout the year. I haven't had any issues with mold. I usually use distilled water instead of straight tap and I am pretty sure that you could buy a jug of distilled and that would last awhile unless it's really dry. That probably helps with mold. I find that running it full tilt for an hour can raise the humidity of small room 20-30% so it's definitely powerful.

  • We've been using the frog for 23 months straight, and it's been great.  I haven't struggled too much to clean it. I usually let it dry out once every two months and take a long neck brush on the inside.

  • We got the elephant one and it leaked all over the place. We rearranged a few things, tried putting in less water and still it leaked & leaked. We ended up returning it.
