xp C-section moms with newborn and toddler

Just wondering when you were able to start lifting your toddler again?  DS weighs about 35 lbs so he is quite heavy but certain situation will require lifting him briefly.  Not sure when I can do this safely.  I've had help the first week home from the hospital but don't think I will have much this week.TIA

  • My DD was 25lbs when DS was born. It was about 5 days after my C-section that I began lifting her regularly. I was supposed to be getting help but people are useless.

It got comfortable to do around 2 week

  • I lifted DD into her carseat the day we came home from the hospital. I'm bad at following directions though, and I couldn't resist her asking me to help her. Plus, DH went back to work after about a week, including the time we were in the hospital.

  • DS1 was also 35lbs (17 months old) at the time of my c-section.  I was told not to lift him for 6 weeks... ha!

It was too painful for me in the first 2 weeks.  But after 2 weeks, I was able to lift him into / out of his crib, high chair, car seat, onto the couch, etc.  I tried not to carry him until 4-6wks post partum but I did do the lifting after just a couple weeks.

  • My OB said that by the books he would recommend not lifting my toddler for two weeks post c-section, but that he knew that was unrealistic most of the time.
