Pregnant after a Loss

Rec your monitor?

Just wondering what monitor you ladies picked out - I didn't really think it was a huge important purchase so I just picked the little fisher price one at BRU but my mom went off on me yesterday about picking a better one w/ 2 receivers ( guess I assumed I'd carry it with me so I wouldn't need 2) but I wondered what the ladies of Pgal liked for monitors. Thanks!

Re: Rec your monitor?

  • I got the angelcare monitor at my baby shower. It's worked great ( few false alarms, mostly at 2 am) but it's peace of mind that lets me sleep some without him being in a PNP right next to my bed with my hand on him.

  • I registred for the sony baby call. Obviously I've never used it, but it got great reviews. I love the Baby Bargains book.

  • We have used the Summer Infant video monitor since DS was born.  I love being able to see him before I go in his room.  At least I know if he is awake and needs me or is just crying out in his sleep.

We got one of those for ds when we moved...I'm not a big fan of it at all.   The range is definitely not what they advertise it to be and the batteries have to be recharged every 2 days.

When ds was first born we had an Angel Care Monitor and a separate Video Monitor.   We will probably be purchasing the same for the next baby.

Angel Care does make just a sound monitor and if it works like the other system for sound, I bet it's pretty good.   We only bought the Sony one because of the rave reviews and it was on sale at BRU the other month.

ETA:   The Angel Care system we had came with 2 parent units and to be honest, we never had a use for the second one.  It don't think it is important to have 2.

  • I have the graco monitor with the two monitors and I would not recommend it. It doesn't have a great range and the battery on one of them only lasts like 30 minutes.

Baby Bargains was not a fan of the angel care, but i think it's because of the movement part. The book is pretty adamant that none of the movement monitors have shown to help reduce SIDS. Online though the angel care sound monitor had really good reviews. Maybe I'll switch to that one.

  • I got the Motorola digital video monitor off amazon for about $160 recently. It is amazing. It has great picture quality, no static at all, great range and it even plays music. So if we are at a friends house or something we don't have to bring something with us that plays music for background noise. Highly recommend. You can add multiple monitors to it.

That's the one we have and it seems to do the job pretty well.  It drove DH crazy for a couple of days due to frequent "range alarm" beeping but once we changed the channel settings, whatever the interference was went away and it has worked perfectly.

  • I have the Sony baby call and have no complaints. As pp mentioned if you are getting the "range alarm" try changing to a different channel, that worked for us too. I am thinking of getting a video monitor this time around. As soon as DD was old enough to cry it out I would have liked to be able to see what she was up to, in case she actually needed me (like when she gets her arm out of her onsie for example!).

  • We have a Summer Infant Video Monitor--we got just one receiver.  We've only used it a handful of times since she is in our room still, but it is nice to be able to see her.
