As a FTM, I am constantly questioning how I am spending my time with LO, particularly between feedings and diaper changes. Do you "play" with your LO at this point? I sometimes will read her a book or will put her on her activity mat and move her legs and feet around while I sing as though she's dancing. Other times, I just hold her and I try to talk to her a fair bit, giving her a running commentary on what's going on or what we're going to do next.
Other than that, what should I be doing? When she's just lying quietly in her Pack and Play, I feel badly but also feel so grateful for the peace that I feel reluctant to disturb her. Also, how long do you let LO lay quietly so that you can get other things done (you know, like showering, washing dishes, answering the phone, etc).?
Re: How do you spend your down time with LO?
This.
During the day when DD is awake, we do tummy time, play on the activity mat, I read and sing to her, she "plays" in different places...her bouncy seat, our bed, etc. We go for walks if it isn't too chilly. I also often wear her around the house in the Moby while I do the dishes, laundry, etc.
We kind of have a routine.
First awake time in the morning is singing time. We play hands/shoulders/knees/and toes and skinna-marinki-dinki-doo.
Second awake time we look at his art cards and talk about the animals/tell stories.
Third awake time is playmat time.
Fourth awake time is usually a walk or an outing.
And depending on general level of fussiness, one of those awake times gets a bouncer time thrown in so I can shower
