Has anyone put in Solar Tubes?

Our living room is rediculously dark and for whatever crazy reason there is no light in the ceiling.  Add that in with our super long eves in the front and covered patio in the back and we only get good light in the late, late afternoon.  Something needs to be done.

I love the concept of solar tubes and would like to put in a couple but have zero idea how much install would be, anyone have ideas?

  • No idea, but they're on my list of must-haves if we ever renovate/build. I've been in houses with them and the difference they make is HUGE. Well worth the $, in my opinion.

Let me know how it turns out!

  • I don't know how much they cost, but my MIL had a couple put in at her Arizona home and they're pretty amazing.  I'd never seen them before that.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We're thinking of putting one in our house.  Haven't done it yet.  I did however see them at Costco.  But you'd have to install yourself or hire someone.
  • We put one in DS's bathroom.  I am so glad we did it.  At the time my parents were doing a HUGE remodel and so we (I think) got a hook up, although don't know how much really it was a deal.  I want to say right around $350-400 for everything (tube, labor, etc).

Thanks for the info.  That does sound like a good deal.  They sell them at Costco for $250 (I think) and I imagine that it's still a pretty big job since the have to cut a hole up through the ceiling and the roof.  I think we need to do 2-5 so it will end up being a big investment but worth every penny I'm sure.
