Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Pack and Play

I couldn't find the exact board for this but hopefully someone here will have some insight. I am due in March with my first baby. We decided not to buy a bassinet because they are expensive and we only plan on co-sleeping for the first 4 months or so. We are going to use the bassinet part of the pack and play for our little guy until he is ready for his crib. What do I need for him to sleep comfortably/safely in there? We will be getting sheets of course. Do I also need a mattress or a mattress cover? Anything else you might have experienced? I appreciate your time and help.

Re: Pack and Play

  • Just sheets, but make sure they fit very well. You want them snug, not loose. You can get quilted sheets if you really want an extra layer of padding.

  • We had the PNP with twin bassinets and just put htem in the bassinet portion in a swaddle sack...I'm glad we didn't invest in much for the PNP as DD HATED it and will only sleep on her belly for naptime when we are watching or in her carseat at night. DS slept in his carseat for the first 5 weeks then we tried the PNP but he seems to just like his crib better...

  • Our LO refused to sleep in the PNP at all.  I think it was because it was so hard - so if you're doing the PNP I would definitely recommend the quilted sheets for extra padding.

  • My little one sleeps in the Pack in Play and doesn't have a problem, I put a birp cloth folded over under his head and then swaddle him. It is cheaper and better than a bassinet. I never used the bassinet part of the pack in play even though it came with one.
  • I had planned on LO sleeping in the Pack and play, in our room, but she had other plans.  She slept swaddled in her car seat in the pack and play for probably the first month, then I was comfortable enough to let her sleep in her crib in the next room.

  • I started looking into those. How long was your little one able to sleep in one?

  • Ours is 10 weeks old now, we transitioned her to the crib but she still naps and hangs out in the RnP during the day just fine. I love it...it's super easy to tote around the house or out for visits as well, so that's a big plus.

  • Our bedroom is really small but we wanted to have DD with us during the night for the first 3 months at least. We got an Arm?s Reach Mini co-sleeper from aBaby.com and that?s really worked out well for us.  It?s compact and convertible. It can be used as a co-sleeper, a bassinet or pack and play during the day. We thought it was a pretty good deal since it came with a mattress, a fitted sheet, liner and a carrying case.
