Ok, I know this is super premature because I'm not due until the summer but when should I start looking for a family to share a nanny with? If it matters, I'm in the Shirlington area. TIA!
I"m 20 weeks pregnant and started touring daycare facilities last week. It's never too early in this area, especially because of the wait lists!
But for Nanny Shares it may be different. I've been following a few on DC Urban Moms (in case we don't get off the wait lists) and it seems nanny share availability comes up really quick, not sure you can plan far in advance. Meaning, most seem to need the baby to join fairly fast. I would go over there, and email a few people. Never hurts to ask! GL!
I agree with PP - you have to get on the list for daycare practically immediately after you find out you're pregnant.
Nanny shares and in-home places don't require as much lead time, I started looking at nanny shares about a month after I had DD; I had a four month maternity leave.
Daycare now. Nanny share - 8 to 9 months pregnant - or really even after the baby is born depending on how long your maternity leave is. We found our nanny share family a few weeks before I went back to work and our nanny couldn't start until several weeks after I went back to work. It was good we had put our name on a daycare list very early on, because we ended up using daycare for those first few weeks. I started looking early for a nanny share family but had no luck. But in the end, it's been great.
