What does baby bargains say about the bugaboo?

I live in a metropolitan area and most of my "travel" with the baby will be walking through town with him/her in a stroller.  I have looked at the Uppa, but it doesn't look as sturdy as the Bugaboo, although it's obviously much less expensive.  What does baby bargains say about the bugaboo chameleon?  What do you think?

  • I test drove the bugaboo and it drove slightly nicer and felt slightly sturdier than the UBV, but not enough for me to justify spending the extra money. I'm trying to remember, but I don't think it had a storage basket either, but I'm not sure if you could add that. HTH.

  • I live in NYC and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Bugaboo. Probably the best baby item I have ever bought. So incredibly sturdy, goes over anything, plows through snow and the basket is HUGE. I walk every where. I can fit in a lot of groceries with room to spare. I also like that the basket under can close. that way nothing under the stroller gets wet. What I didn't like about the UBV was the seat sits pretty high. With DD being two, she likes to climb in and out of the stroller on her own. But, my friends who have the UBV, do love theirs. I just found the bugaboo to be a better fit for our family and lifestyle.

  • I went in thinking I was going to get the Bugaboo and the Vista easily won out.  You will not find a larger basket than the Vista and that was a BIG deal to me.  Also, money aside, I actually preferred the look of the Vista to the Bugaboo.  We live in MN and the Vista has plowed through snow/slush/mud like a trooper - looking back I would make the same decision. Plus, the Vista you can close with the seat attached and you can't with the Bugaboo.

  • Vlong - did the basket come w/the stroller or did you purchase it separately?
  • The BB book I had (circa 2008 I think) from what I remember gave the bugaboo line an A rating.  It's a very good line.  We had the Bee and loved ours.  If it's too pricey for you try looking for used ones on CL.  I've found that used and expensive brands still tend to be in really good condition.

  • We were choosing between the chameleon and UBV and ended up with the UBV.  I really liked the bugaboo--it handles well and I liked that you could take the seat out, etc. with one hand (you really need 2 to do it with UBV).  The bugaboo wheels (at least the current ones) are actually filled with foam, so you don't have to inflate them.  I also liked that the handle could switch directions so you had the big wheels in the front in heavy snow, etc.  I didn't care for the bugaboo bassinet, though.

Having said all that, I couldn't justify the price.  For whatever reason, I had a better feeling about the UBV, but perhaps that's because I knew it wasn't $1000 Smile.

  • AMAZING stroller. We are back and forth btw the city and suburban NJ and it's an incredible stroller. The push is amazing, the wheels are fantastic. The close is easy and the frame is light. The look is sleek and modern and I actually really like the basket (which is included). It's somewhat closed so the items in it aren't exposed and don't fall out when you open and close the stroller. I just love the stroller. I have that and the Orbit and I'm just as passionate about my Orbit, but for different reasons. I would use the experiences of owners over BB's review...
  • I also live in a city and we chose the Bugaboo. We absolutely love it! You really can't go wrong. THe push is so light and easy!

Friends of mine do have the Uppa and love it too

OP: The basket does come with the stroller. The only accessories I purchased were cupholders, stroller hook for the diaper bag and a bundle me.

  • Also, if you're not in NJ the store by me is price matching a NY store this weekend. So you can get 20% off, no sales tax and free shipping on the Cameleon this weekend.
  • I have the Bugaboo Frog (similar to Chameleon I think) and it is great.  I hate it for suburban living and definitely use my City Mini more often because its easier to transport in car and more compact, but if I lived in a major city I would use Bugaboo everyday since I would not need to take it in and out of car.

  • It depends on your lifestyle. They are mostly the same and I doubt you would notice a huge difference in their handling. If I lived in a place like NYC and never drove, I probably would get the bugaboo. But I live in a suburban neighborhood so I drive a lot however I also walk into town all the time for fun, to meet friends for lunch, to pick up groceries etc. We live really close to a super cute town with lts of shops/restaurants and the area is generally very walker friendly, I.e. has good sidewalks and crosswalks. So i love that my UBV can handle all of that. But when my day involves driving and mall trips etc then I love that I can fold it with the seat attached so it is easier to get it in and out of the car. I also love the gigantic basket which, I frequently use for grocery shopping and that it can become a double stroller in the future. The bugaboo's adantage though is it has a narrower wheel base so easier to maneuver in tight aisles like a city grocery store etc would have.
