1st Trimester

Exercising in 1st trimester

I just found out I'm pregnant and have been soooo tired. I typically exercise 3x/wk and eat healthy enough. I'm going to TRY to stay around the recommended weight gain during my pregnancy (we'll see if it happens once cravings kick in) but don't know how I'll be able to do so if all I feel like doing is sleeping or laying on the couch! Has anyone else had similar experiences and have any insight?

Re: Exercising in 1st trimester

  • I'm having the exact same issue... the one thing that I have been able to keep doing is hot yoga (except last class I wanted to yak)... and that has been awesome... oh and I walk the dog... but I had to quit Zumba :-(

  • I just started going back to the gym this week after a break since 5 weeks. My "workout" is kind of a joke right now, but getting there has been big.
Last time I was pregnant I don't even remember working out. Really just getting through the first tri is hard enough on its own.

  • I used to run almost everyday or at least 4X a week, before I got my BFP I was so tired and fatigue cant even move from bed after work. For some reason I felt a lot better this last couple days and go on my usual run for 5.5K I felt great, only I feel dizzy after wards, I look online and I think I overdo my self so I think I will go on long walk next time or run with a slower pace.

  • I was doing crossfit .. but I stopped as soon as I found out I was pregnant. It was way to intense and worried me.

Other than that I don't really excersise, my job is pretty active ( I will usually spend 2-3 hours a day walking outside with clients) so I consider that my exercise :)

  • I am a Zumba instructor, what I'm doing is getting rested most of the day and then going to teach my class in the evening. However, I do not do all the jumping and high energy stuff. I do have an assistant that does all the regular choreography and I do it all in a modified form.

Have you asked your doctor about the hot yoga?  Some don't recommend it, esp. during first tri, as its prolonged exposure to high temps.  (See, e.g., https://yoga.about.com/od/prenatalyoga/a/firsttrimester_2.htm)
