IHO Veterans Day

Do you have family or friends that serve(d) in the milatary?

My Uncle was in the Navy, my cousin is in the Marines and one of DHs good friends is in the Air Force.  I also have an uncle and a couple of friends who were/are in the National Guard.

I think one of DHs uncles was in the Army and his Grandfather served in WWII in Europe.  He was there for D-Day.

I'm very thankful for all of them, every day.

Re: IHO Veterans Day

  • My dad was in the Army, he fought in Vietnam in '69-'70. My grandpa on my dad's side fought in France during WWII as did all three of my grandpa's brothers.

My uncle (dad's brother) was also in the Army before Vietnam. Also on my dad's side, I have a cousin who was in the Army, and quite a bit of extended family that served (but I don't know them well so details are sketchy).

On mom's side, my grandpa fought in Korea. I also have a cousin who just retired from the Army after 25 years (he fought in Iraq, Afghanistan, and was CID investigating opium rings in Afghanistan as well). Two other cousins were in the Air Force. And I think my great-grandfather was in the service also, but I'm not sure.

I have one close friend who's husband is in the Air National Guard, he frequently has to travel to Greenland and Antarctica.

I am so humbled to know all of these brave people! Thank God for all of them.

  • My grandpa was in the navy.  DH was in the reserves, but his time ended right before 9/11.  His group went over and he has said a few times that if he was still in when it happened he probably would have gone active immediately.  His grandpa he never met - he died in a naval accident (USS Hobson) while his mom was very little.  Also, his great grandfather who fought in WWI.

  • I'm a little late to this.... but DH and I were both in the Marine Corps (me for 8 years, him for 6).  My brother is a Marine, grandfather is Retired Navy.  Cousin and BIL in the Army.  Lots and lots of friends in the some branch of the military.

I am so thankful for all of my brothers and sisters in uniform, active, reserve or retired and for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedom.  Thank you, OP and PPs for your recognition of Veteran's Day!
