I love the name Elliott for a boy! I don't think it sounds like idiot at all. It only got crossed off our list b/c of how many people started slapping it on their girls.
Not at all. I like Elliott and I'm happy to hear you want to use it for a boy and not a girl.

I think this is cute. But, I do have a Philipino friend who wanted to name her son Elliot, but her Mother's accent made it sound like Idiot. She went with Miles. Very cute.
See, that's the clip I was looking for and didn't have the patience to find! I love that. Or when they keep calling him Smelliot. I still like the name though!
No- I do not, my step-grandfather's name is Elliott and the only ridicule he got as a kid was because of his MN: Root. Yes, Elliott Root (Root like a tree root).
I'm a mom of an Elliott and in 3 years no one has called him Idiot instead of Elliott. On the playground once though a boy asked what his name was and I said Elliott and he said "Hi Alien". It made me laugh because he didn't even question why he was named Alien and just said hi to him.
I'd say the only downside of his name is that DS says w's for l's. So when people ask him his name he says something that sounds more like Ewwiott. But I'm sure that will come with time.
I get compliments on his name all the time. People usually say that they don't hear it very often. I love it but of course I'm biased.

Re: when you hear name Elliott, do you
Nope, I think of Pete's Dragon (the dragon was named Elliott)
I also think of a really smart and sweet little boy!

LOL - This. I always hear this name in ET's voice
I do, but that's because my dk's have watched Open Season about a million times. I still like the name anyway.

No. I can see how that might happen on a playground at some point... but I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor in not using it.
FTR, I think of E.T., so not a bad association.

Um, that is my DH's name so NO.....weeeellll, except maybe when he disagrees with me

I think it's an amazing name....though I will totally admit my bias.
