D.C. Area Babies

Washington Hospital Center

Does anyone know a good OB at Washington Hospital Center? It's the closest hospital to me, and they have a good reputation for care (although I don't know in prenatal care), so I thought I would look there. I'm 4 weeks pregnant and need to find a doctor!

Re: Washington Hospital Center

  • congratulations on your pregnancy! how exciting to be expecting!

a dear friend is a pre/post natal nurse at WHC. she has regularly referred to it as a baby factory (and not in a good way).

there are lots of hospitals in that area. i would suggest that you consider the type of birth you want to have (are you planning medicated/unmedicated birth?) and how important avoiding interventions and potentially a c/s is to you, then get recommendations on doctors that fit those preferences. the DC area has a fairly high c/s rate, so if avoiding an unnecessary c/s is important to you, you will want to know both the hospital's rate as well as the OB's rate.

also, aside from an appointment to confirm the pregnancy with a urine or blood test and to take maternal/paternal history and possibly a dating u/s, you may not have a first appointment (actually with the OB) until you are 12 weeks. that is totally normal.

    HTH!

  • Thank you so much!! That was really helpful! I will make sure to see what the c/s rates are - I would rather not have one if I can avoid it!

     Thanks!
