Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right board for this type of question but I'm trying the this board and TheNest for help too. DH and I recently bought a house and we currently have a boil water notice in our area. We're looking for a entire-home water filtration/treatment system and was wondering if anyone has any experience with anything like this? TIA!

Re: XP: Point-of-entry water filtration/treatment systems?
The dept of public health issued the boil water notice and it's because our water comes from a private water company that has gone bankrupt and the dept of public health has taken it over for now and is working on remedying the situation. I called them this morning and they said it might take at least a few years (!!) to resolve. So yeah, we're looking for something that could used to treat water under a boil order.
Yeah, a well is a possible solution for a situation like this, but that would require us to get the permits and dish out the tons of money requred to drill one on our property (not to mention the unknown factor of whether we will even hit any water if we drill one...or enough water), so we're looking for something to treat our current water if possible.
Yeah, I guess I'll have to contact a well company and ask about water supply and get an actual quote for drilling a well to find out for sure. I've contacted some water testing labs but am still waiting to hear back from them. I'll probably contact some more tomorrow if I don't get callbacks by tomorrow morning. Thanks for sharing/replying
I wouldn't give up on the cost/research of home water purification units just yet. As far as I know...wells can cost $10,000 to drill (then there is the hard water softeners, water pressure, pump maintenance, etc..much easier to plug into the city water and just change a filter now and then). While a whole-home filtration system can cost $1,000 (depending on brand I'm sure). Filtering just your sinks or showers ($500+?). I guess it does depend somewhat on what you have to filter out...but considering that we drink out of local water sources while backpacking with just simple clay pump filters...I can't imagine it's anything too serious.
A brita wouldn't cover it...but I bet you have options.
I have one of the reverse osmosis systems that go under your kitchen sink for your drinking water. It's by GE and was about $400. It works really well.
Are you supposed to boil all of your water or just drinking water?
