Re: So whats your period like after delivery?

  • i had a c-section (not sure if it matters). and i got my first one 6wks1day after i gave birth. honestly, it wasn't bad at all. it was just like my periods prior to pregnancy. i think the only thing is, is that it lasted a couple of days longer but that was it. i've heard others say that their cramps are worse and they bleed a lot heavier. but i didn't have much postpartum bleeding either. so i guess every body is different.

  • Haven't had one yet this time and hope to avoid it for a while since I am BFing, but after DD, even on birth control (nuva ring) the first few months were outrageously heavy. They did calm down some thank goodness.

  • I delivered 3 weeks 2 days ago and I just now feel like my period is going to end. I think I had my first blood free day yesterday but then spotted during the night. It started immediately after delivery and was like a heavy first day for about a week, then it was a regular flow for another week. It gradually got lighter and lighter. I hear that3 weeks is pretty average. I suggest using your own pads right from the start though. The hospital pads don't absorb anything and I ended up leaking all over the place.
  • I just started my first PP period Tuesday, and it sucks! It was so nice to not have one for 9 months. So far it has been super heavy and feels as if there is no slowing down either. I didn't have much bleeding PP either, so I'm really surprised by how heavy it is. But don't have much cramping, just a little.

  • It was 7 months before I got my period with DD. I don't remember it being any different than my normal periods. As PP said, the post-partum bleeding was INSANE. Its like a red Niagra Falls. It just. keeps. coming. and coming. and coming...

  • I had a c section and bleed for 3-4 weeks. Got my first pp period at exactly 6 weeks. Was the same as any prior to my pregnancy.

  • My PP bleeding wasn't terrible. I had heavy bleeding the first two days. (Like a regular period). By the time I left the hospital I was bleeding lightly. I'm exactly 2 weeks PP and it's now just spotting. Every so often I'll have a little heavier bleeding, but nothing that requires any pad bigger than a regular flow one.

My heaviest bleeding was straight after delivery: I lost a large amount of blood and the discharge after delivery (so much so I ended up passing out the first time I stood up after delivery), but after that, it was no worse than period bleeding.  I never needed the super duper pads to absorb the PP flow.

In terms of the PP period, I haven't gotten it yet, but I'm curious as to what it's going to be like.  I think I was pretty lucky in terms of the recovery from childbirth, from what others have shared with me. There's varying degrees. Some people have it a little easier, others a little harder of a recovery.

  • I got my first PP period on my first day back to work (lucky me), so it was a little over 6 weeks since I gave birth. I had prepared myself for it to be terrible, since that's what I heard from everyone, but it was honestly less bleeding and cramps than my normal periods. Before I got pregnant, my periods were 7-8 days long and I had ridiculous cramps. This time it lasted maybe 5 days and I had mild cramps, but didn't even take anything for them.
