Hello Fellow Philly Nestees!!
I am new the The Nest, as I am a newlywed
. My husband and I live in the Philadelphia area. I am presently looking to change some of my doctors, especially my OB/GYN. We don't have children and are not planning on having them for at least a year. However, I am not happy with my present OB/GYN's office- Dr. Jaspan at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Dr. Jaspan himself is wonderful and personable. Unfortunately, dealing with the office, making an appointment, and being seen is like pulling teeth.
I am interested in hearing others' experiences with their OB/GYNs. Since we are planning children in the nearer future, I figure I should also ask about your pregnancy experience with your docs as well.
Tell me everything!!

Re: OB/GYN Suggestions in Philadelphia Area?
If you are open and interested in being treated one day as a low risk woman simply gestating, your best bet is to start getting care from a midwife. Ob/Gyn's are better for women who do have some medical issues and need more medicalized treatment, contrary to what has become the cultural norm here. But their training focuses mostly on surgery and treating the problems or complications of pregnancy and labor/birth. In other countries, midwives care for and treat normal. If you aren't one of those high risk women, you'll be treated as such anyway for the most part in an OB/Gyn office (of course there are sometimes exceptions, but not generally in the Phila area) and that routine care applied as standard to everyone can be 1) unneccesary 2) impersonal 3) harmful. But either midwives or Ob's, the smaller the practice, the better, more personalized care you get.
Either way, if you email me at lori at delcodoula dot com with your location more specifically, I could recommend either midwives or ob/gyn's or both.
Best to you in finding the right fit for you!
Oh NO...Einstein is the worst hospital if there ever was one. That is the hood to me...sorry. I goto UPenn Helen o Dickens Center. It is right inside the hospital and everything is in one building as far as testing and such. I love the hospital. They are extremely educated and their first priority is YOU and baby if you are expecting or trying to conceive or just overall in general. The appointment process is very flexible and they cater to your schedule. I absolutely love them. I first came to them when my mother had to be flown by helicopter to their trauma center from over 45 minutes away and they saved her life and they did not skip a beat. They did any and everything and till this day keep in touch after 6 years. They are like a second family and I do not see myself going anywhere else. If they had a dentist I would go there too for that...lol Not to mention the various cafeterias and coffee bars inside and the beautiful bldg is a plus. All the women are fun and easy to talk to in the OB/GYN office. My CNP is Pamela Williams, but any of the women are great and Deon is a wonderful social worker who sets appointments there for her and makes sure you are doing okay and gives you any resources you may need for anything.
Good Luck
