Anyone have any ideas for veggies for lunch? DS is getting even pickier as he gets older (ugh), so the usual carrots and celery sticks just get tossed out or brought back home. I've just been trying to push the veggies during dinner instead, but I feel like now I'm sinking into just filling his lunch with junk.
What do you pack? I've tried cherry tomatos and he hates those too. He sometimes eats edamame.
Re: Veggies for lunch
My kids both like red bell peppers cut up into strips. Dd loves sliced cucumbers.
Have you tried sending him with main dishes that are heavy on the vegetables instead of just the typical sandwich? What about sending things like vegetable soup in a small Thermos? Or a pasta salad with lots of veggies? I would even think that you could put pasta with tomato sauce (lots of extra veggies in the sauce!) in a Thermos container.
Ditto cleo -- my kids love bell pepper strips and sliced cucumbers.
Have you tried sending dips for veggies? DDs love hummus, ranch, or even just parmesan cheese.
Maybe those freeze dried peas? I haven't tried those yet but I keep meaning to.
We pack pea pods, cut up bell peppers (every color), carrot "coins" (slices of carrot rather than sticks), peas, green beans, black beans, grape tomatoes (they like these and sugar plum tomatoes better than cherry), cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, or edamame.
My kids do go in phases where they dislike a veggie for a while, so I just don't pack that for a while until they decide they like it again.
