I thought DS was ready to potty train, he's been telling me when he poops and asks me to change his diaper for about a week now. He can pull his pants up and down, and has shown some interest in his little potty. I decided to start the three day potty training and from what I can see it's not working at all (or maybe it is and I haven't given it enough time, I don't know). As soon as he woke up this morning I took his diaper off and let him run around naked from the waist down and told him to tell me when he has to go pee or poop, I brought his potty into the living room and closed off all the other rooms of the house so that if he started to have an accident I could just plop him on the potty really quickly. I also told him that when he goes poop or pee in his potty then he'll get a piece of candy (one M&M). So far he's peed twice and dribbled once after going on the floor, and peed probably 10 times on the floor. He just seems so distracted, he only catches himself after he's peed, not even while he's going. We've literally gone back and forth from the potty every couple of minutes all day because he wants to try peeing for some candy, then the rest of the time it's like he's got a constant slow drip all over the place. Is this just how it is in the beginning or does it sound like he's not ready, or am I doing something wrong?
Re: Does this mean he's not ready?
The three day potty system tells you to leave them in underwear and to keep the potty in the bathroom. She also recommends not using bribes like candy or stickers. It needs to be a reward for a choice that THEY make.
How many days have you been trying to PT? Day 2 was the worst day for us. If it's only the first day, then of course they are going to have accidents. They have no idea what you are expecting them to do.
I posted below about this...but if on day 4 the child is telling you "potty" but they already went in their pants (and this is every time) - do you keep trying or do you wait until they are a little older?
I'm just not sure if dd is ready, either...
