Hi all! Thanks for such a warm welcome yesterday! I am still in shock ![]()
It's still extremely early for me... I'm only 3w5d along, but I'm wondering when I should go ahead and call the OB/GYN to make my first prenatal appointment. I'm thinking I should wait until next week to make sure AF doesn't arrive. Would I make the appointment for week 5? Or is that still too early?
Also, what can I expect during my first appointment? Based on the other posts, it seems like the first appt consists of a urine test, possible blood test, and medical history review. It seems like the first u/s doesn't come until week 10 or so...?
TIA!!
Re: When to make my first dr. appt?
Call your dr and see what their policy is. Mine won't even see me until 8 weeks (also when they do the first ultrasound) unless there is a problem.
I called the doc and made an appointment as soon as i got my BFP.
just to make sure i wasn't imagining lines on the test, i went in that afternoon to confirm pregnancy.
i have my first u/s at 8 weeks (that's their policy) and i won't actually meet the OB until 10 weeks!
i freaked at first b/c i felt that's a long time to go without medical care, but now realize that some clinics just work that way.
i'm calling another clinic (midwives) tomorrow to see if i click with them better.

I called right away to make my appt. They won't see me until 8 weeks but she said that it was good that I had called so early because the Dr likes to block out 2hrs for these first appointments. That way there is no rush, we can do an u/s and all my questions will get answered. I've all ready established myself with this Dr as a patient so they are not having me come in for one of the pee in a cup/history review appointments.
With my previous pregnancy I had not established care with my OB and they did have me come in for one of the pee in a cup/history review appts. I was so excited but I didn't even get into an examining room that time. They had me meet with a nurse in an office. They did give me a lot of paperwork regarding what to eat/what meds were ok etc. That was nice but still total bummer!

BFP #2- 9/2012 (beautiful boy born sleeping @ 20 weeks)
call right away and see what they say. I called right after i got my BFP for our first baby and we weren't scheduled to meet until week 8 and that was to just discuss family history etc and week 10 was to have an u/s done. we had a m/c so we never got to that point. for this pregnancy i called right away after i got my BFP and i went in the following day (4w5d) for a blood test and i am going in next week (5w5d) for an u/s. all doctors are different and it depends on your history.
I'm 4 weeks along almost toward my 5 weeks mark, my family doctor share practice with OB GYN so I decided I will use her. I called my family nurse doctor and told them I have positive pregnancy test so they asked me when was my LMP and figure I was 4 weeks along.
They told me I dont need to see my OB until 8/9 weeks, based on my medical records since they have my chart from my family doctor, they consider me pretty healthy. they said I can come in for blood/urine test if I want to but decided against it since I already took the test twice and both positive. I'm actually lucky that I also have a friend that have her PA license so I usually just call her if there is question needed from my side.
I believe it all depends on your medical history, you can call your OB and ask them. I'm also scared of going this far along without any medical supervision, but there is nothing they can do on their side either. So now its a matter of waiting and praying that my little poppy seed is growing.
