Karo Syrup for constipation.

My little one hasn't pooped in 3 days due to change in formula. My doctor recommended that I gave her Karo Syrup, have any of you done this? Did it help? If so how much do I give her and how? She is 5 weeks and 3 days old. Thank you.

Re: Karo Syrup for constipation.

  • Haven't done it but i would much rather do that than a supposirory? Formula switching does mess with their system. I switched my dd to soy formula a month ago and she was only pooping pellets?so i just gave a little pear juice for a day or two and that helped.

  • My son got a bit of constipation around eleven months old, and karo syrup did the trick.  I can tell you it works, but I never used it on an infant that young.  I mixed it into a bottle of breastmilk.

  • I used it for my daughter when she was that age.  Use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon up to three times a day and then regulate as needed.  I just put it in the bottle.  I will warn you the karo syrup can cause gas and this was an issue with me so I ended up switching to milk of magnesia and it worked great.  Just use the same dosage as the karo.  My doctor actually recommended the milk of magnesia over the karo.
  • My babe is the same age as yours and im in the same boat 3 days today and no poop. Im breastfeeding thou, my doc said as long as babies go once in five days then there is no need for concern.
