Antibiotics and pregnancy?

I was just curious if any of you have been prescribed antibiotics. I have been sick for a month with a sore throat off and on and an annoying cough, so I asked the Dr. about it. I am allergic to Penicillin so she prescribed me Bactrim DS. I even asked the pharmacist if it was okay and he said they even did some research to make sure it was safe in the 2nd trimester. Just wondering if any of you ladies have had to take antibiotics for anything. I have tried to do my own research and found that it is a class C drug, so effects to the fetus are not known. I am just a tad nervous about starting it and wondered what you ladies thought. Thanks!

    Early on, in the first tri, I got strep.  I am also allergic to penicillin and got the zpack...

    I was sick from at 14 weeks for about a month.  Didn't want to take anything but eventually gave in and took a zpack.  I think it would be ok.

    Yes, I've had two doses now. The doc just prescribes one that is safe for pregnancy.

    I had to take antibiotics early in 2nd tri for a bladder infection. I think it was macrobid (or something like that).

    I've had 4 cycles of antibiotics so far this pregnancy, and although I'm not comfortable taking medications during pregnancy, it's neccessary. You've got to think, as a class C drug, the effects are unknown, but there couldn't have been too many reported cases with bad effects, or else it wouldn't be prescribed while pregnant. The effects of an illness in the mother, and fever, and infection ARE known, and they can be horrible. You need to look after you, and if antibiotics are needed to do so, I'd say go for it.

    I got bronchitis with my first and was on antibiotics (can't remember which one).  She is a happy and healthy 3 yr old.

    I too am allergic to Penicillin. I had the sore throat, cough, and stuffy nose since halloween. I went to my doctor last Friday and he gave me  a  Z Pack. I just  started taking it Monday and i can totally feel the difference. I asked the pharmacist and my OB if it was safe to take and they both agreed it is.

    Zpack for me about 4 weeks ago for a sinus infection.  Didn't want to take it either but the doctor said it would be worse for the baby if I developed a fever.

    Thanks ladies! I have tried to start my antibiotic, but have had a really hard time swallowing the pills. The first one just broke in pieces and today it just would stop as soon as it hit my throat. I think since it is inflamed it is just hard to get pills down. Prenatals go down fine, for some reason, but can't seem to get these ones to. We were thinking of turning them into powder and putting them in pudding or something. I have been on this antibiotic before pregnancy for a bladder infection and it worked wonders and I was able to swallow it, so I have no clue what my problem is now. Hope you ladies are all having a great Friday :)
