I was thinking of the Baby Bullet because I am a sucker for marketing gimmicks. Will a plain old food processor work just as well? What other supplies will I need?
I can't stand more applicances taking up space, its my pet peeve! We have a steamer, blender and food processor and I'm confident those will do the job. I'll get some trays though for freezer storage.
The Baby Bullet is super cute, but honestly, it's not worth it and I'm all about spending money on items that will last for the long run. Even if someone gifted me the Baby Bullet, I'd still exchange it for something else. IMO, it's better to invest in a food processor instead. You will get far more use out of it, way past the baby yrs, not to metion it's cheaper too! Get a few food trays that can store/freeze the baby food and a steamer insert for one of your pots (if you don't already own one) and call it a day.
No, definitely do not need a special baby food maker. We have a large food processor (12 cup I think) that works great. We use it for a ton of other things since we cook and bake a lot.
I would just use a blender or food processor you already own. I have a bullet (I've had 2 actually. 1 I wanted and the other was replaced by the company because it broke a few months in) and they do not work very well for very long. The rubber bands that protect your blades constantly snap and end up in your food. You either get an inconsistent chunky mess or liquid soup, so you won't be able to use it for much else aside from the baby food. It's really not worth it.
All you need is a pot to steam or boil your veggies/fruit, a stick blender or food processor, and Ice cube tray with lid. That's it. I highly recommend a stick blender. Under $50 and it is easy to clean, able to be stored in small space, and blends amazingly.

I agree with PPs that there is no need for a specialized baby food maker. I don't like to buy, nor do I have room for, anything that doesn't serve multiple purposes.
I steamed in a regular steaming basket, and pureed in a food processor. I used ice cube trays with lids to freeze, and then put the frozen cubes in labeled freezer bags.

We used out magic bullet. I tried my blender, and our small processor, but I found I like the bullet best.
Other than that, you need ice cube trays to put the food in...freeze...then put the cubes in freezer bags.
