GD and Kaiser vent

I have been feeling off since halloween so I went to see the dr. Dr explained that kaiser does not test again untill X week down the road be I could have a meter and check myself if I like. Got the meter last friday and have really poor numbers. 120's fasting in the morning and a few 170s after lunch. Ok so my previous gd dr and the chart the nurse at kaiser gave me says the fasting number should be under 95. I now have a weeks worth of data. My dr wants to run more tests and the nurse/gd group that calls you disagree with my dr about what tests I need to take. They are both ordering different tests. I begged the nuse and my dr to get on the same page today. I am so frusterated. I just want them to treat my gd and they are just wanted to give me tests and fill out paperwork. I also feel like crap. What is freaking wrong with these kaiser people.

Re: GD and Kaiser vent

  • And that is why I refuse to move to Kaiser. There are tons of good stories, but it just takes a few of these horrible ones to keep me on ppo.

Have you adjust your diet at all? I know you are stressed and for me stress jumps my numbers big time.

But with after lunch number like that, sounds like you're going to need insulin :

I can't even imagine what tests they need besides the A1C and possibly doing the fasting test, but with the data, I'd just think the A1C and then get you going on a treatment.

Blah. Sorry you are going through this.

  • Hangs head... I just unleashed my pg hormones on a Kaiser nurse and sobbed at her. I told her they were not taking care of me and I dont remeber what else but I really upset her so we will see what happens now. I am a mess.

  • That's crazy.  I asked to be tested in the first tri since I had GD with pregnancy #1 and the doctor simply sent a note to the lab and I dropped in to take the glucose test.  I'm sure she would have ordered another test had some symptoms came up later on in the pregnancy.  What other tests are they trying to order?

  • The A1C gives you average blood sugars over the last three months, it's a great long term tool, but the glucose tolerance tests gives them more current data. I've never had GD, but I am a type two diabetic. While you are waiting for them to get back to you, cut back on the carbs, and you'll start to feel a little better. Don't cut out completely, but find a balanced diabetic diet online and start to follow it. A GD diet would be even better as the needs are slightly different. Hopefully they get back to you quickly, get the tests done, and come up with a plan. Good luck.
