At my 30 week appointment, I was measuring 12 days behind at 3 lbs. He told me not to worry though....she'd hit a growth spurt when ready.
Really? My 30 week appt (29w 4d) lo was measuring 3lb 2oz they told me he was right on tract. I wonder if they didn't want to alarm me or have different views?

It was what the machine said and he confirmed it. It showed my real EDD and then another EDD that was according to her size that was later in January, but he told me don't worry, that she'd grow. So, maybe it's just a difference in opinion???
Terrible question, but are we supposed to know this? My doctor never tells me LO's size. How do they determine it?
They measure the head and thigh bone and a few other things. At my u/s at 28w2d my baby measured at 29w5d and 3lb3oz (I think it was 3oz, I know it was over 3lb). All of that was based on the measurements the tech took during the u/s. According to the measurements my LO is in the 90th percentile.
The measurements aren't 100% accurate some say they can be off as much as +/- 2lbs. My friend had a u/s a few days before birth and was told her son would be over 9lb but he ended up only being 7lb 7oz.

I measured small at 29w, and they will check again next week. They want to make sure she hasn't fallen in percentages again. She was 2lbs and 4oz at that point, but they didn't tell me percentages. I was borderline IUGR with my DD, so they wanted to induce at 38w. She came on her own at that point anyway and was a very healthy 6lbs even.

My concern is that they haven't taken any measurements (no ultrasounds) since 20w. So what happens if growth slows... how would they know?

This! How do they know if you haven't had any ultrasounds?
For me, they only ordered additional u/s at 31 weeks because of GD. Typically, my dr only does the 20 week. If you're labeled high risk, they'll do more just to make sure the baby is growing properly and all looks good. I'll have another at 36 weeks.

They also use fundal height. When you visit you should have your bump measured. The lenght of your bump from the pelvis to the top of the uterus should equal the number of weeks pg you are. If you're 30 weeks pg your fundal height should be 30 inches. If your fundal height is off (bigger or smaller than it should be) they may order a u/s to measure the baby's head and long bones.

This. My doctor measured fundal height for me and thought I was measuring really big (as in 6 weeks ahead) so scheduled me for an u/s. Turns out, I just have a really big uterus. Baby was measuring 55 percentile and right on track. All of the tools they use are just estimates based on averages and such. If your doctor isn't worried, then I wouldn't give it another thought.
