1st Trimester

EDD July 20

Hi ladies...

Very happy to be here.... by my calculation I am just barely 4 weeks. I did call my GYN office and they said to wait a "little bit" to come in for a blood test and that I don't need a specific appt.

How long did you wait to go in? She said that if I came in too early she would want me to come back again...

6 wk sound reasonable?

TIA :)

Re: EDD July 20

  • My doctor won't see me until 7-8 weeks and it will be a full apt and u/s. Every doc is different.

  • First of all, 7/20 is my birthday and I was born on my due date, so I'm especially excited for you.  My OB does the initial appt and u/s between 6-8 wks.  I chose to go in after the 7 wk mark because I was more likely to hear the heartbeat on the internal u/s at that point.

  • I'm 4 weeks along and my appointment is not until 12/14 its around mid 8th week. Nurse asked me how many times did I took pregnancy test and I told her that I only had one test (at the time that I made the appointment), she said I can come in any time to get blood or urine test. But I decided to do another test and its positive again So I decided blood test is not needed and schedule my 8/9 weeks appointment. I'm so happy that appointment is set, now i'm patiently waiting....

  • If you are going in just for blood work, one "appointment" isn't really going to tell you much.  Most doctors who have you do early blood work have you go in at least twice anyway.  You will get your hCG level, but it doesn't really mean much by itself.  You need another measure a couple days later to see how fast it is rising, which is what is important.  When you go in they may also test your blood type, whether are you are rh pos. or neg., test you for some STDs, and for whether are not you are a carrier of cystic fibrosis.  All of those tests can be performed at any time and the results will not change, so it doesn't really matter when you go in.  You can go tomorrow!  I went in the day I got my BFP (I think - maybe the day after) and then again a coupld days later to see how my hCG was rising.

  • Thank you ladies for the input! :)

KSutt-- Did you get a level on the spot at your first blood test or did they call you with results? I think it makes sense to make the 2 trips for the blood test to make sure the levels are rising... thank you!

  • They called me with the results - I think I got my first one the next day, and the 2nd one took 2 days.  Once you have two levels, there is a great website that charts it for you - https://www.babymed.com/tools/hcg-calculator

  • Welcome, and congratulations! From my calculations, 7/20 is my EDD too! Like previously said, each doc is different. My OB has me coming in right away to confirm with a blood test, and then they wont see me until Im 8-10wks for the first appt (pap, ultrasound, etc). I know, the wait seems like forever!! Congrats, again :)

  • Congratulations!! Mine is July 14th!  I think 6 weeks sounds good:) I am going in at 5 weeks, just to get some complimentary prenatal vitamins and to get  a pap. Hopefully at the next monthly visit we can hear a heartbeat!
