I am sure that this has been posted about a million times but I wasn't paying attention. Sorry! ![]()
What are/did you serve to eat at LO's bday party? We served baked Ziti, salad and garlic bread for her 1st. Will only have about 10-12 people so cooking for them is what we will do but I don't want to get too crazy with it. What did/will you do? Her party will be on a Sunday at 1:00, in our home.
I love discussing food, so let's see what you girls are thinking about.
Thanks!
Re: What to serve?
We had pulled pork & pulled buffalo chicken on rolls and chili (vegetarian) along with chips and dip, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, cupcakes, pumpkin bread pudding, and pumpkin cookies.
I think that was all we had. We had about 15 there, including the birthday boy and my nephew and niece (both under 3)-so they didn't eat much)
baked ziti sounds delicious. I'd be really stoked to eat that at a party. I'd probably do something easy like finger sandwiches though. But I am lazy. You could do sliders. I don't know why but I'm thinking little foods. heheh
At my son's first we did burgers and hot dogs & sides, but it was summer and outside.
Thanks, it was a big hit! We did chili, ketchup, mustard, salsa, onions, sour cream, cheese, guacomole, diced tomatoes and relish.
I would love to do this along with the sliders PP suggested but we don't have a grill. To me, if you're going to have those things they pretty much need to be grilled....unless I'm missing something....
I like the idea of Chile. That's pretty neat! Her bday is in Dec so cold weather food is something to gear towards.
It was super easy and we were able to make a huge dish of it rather inexpensively.
I though about finger sandwiches but DH wasn't too thrilled with that. This bday will be cupcake themed so any ideas for food to go with that theme...other than the cupcakes themselves....would be neat to incorporate.
That sounds really good! Not sure how to do any of it though. lol!
This might be a winner! Can't you do pulled pork in the crockpot? How did you do yours?
I rough chop 1 onion and peel 1 bulb of garlic and put them at the bottom of the crock, then add just a little bit of water, then put the roast on top of the onions/garlic and cook for 8 hours (longer if I'm making a big roast).
Then I take the onions and garlic, discard them, place the roast back in and shred it and add bbq sauce (I usually use a sweet chipotle but I've done it with all kinds of sauces). It's the easiest recipe I have (and the most requested)
You are awesome! What size roast would you do for 10-12 people? Once you add the BBQ sauce do you continue to cook for a little bit or is it done at that point?
Do you also make your chili in a crockpot?
I used a 5 1/3 pound roast, but DH's family eats a lot of meat, and I knew my dad would have his fair share (since he has to be vegetarian at home with my mom). If it's going to be the only main dish you serve, I'd make a big one-you can always keep the left overs.
I do usually let the pork cook an additional 15-30 minutes after I add the sauce, but I don't really think you need to. Just something I've always done.
I think I
you! Love this idea too!
ETA: My phone didn't do what I planned.
