We are finally putting Jack in underwear at night. He was been in underwear during the day/naps for a year and a half, but has never had any signs of readiness for night time potty training (i.e., waking up w/ a dry diaper, waking himself to pee in the night, etc.).
Yesterday, he asked why he didn't wear underwear at night, so we decided to let him try. I have no idea how it went b/c DH was on duty during the night (I had to get up at 4a to work). But, I know there was at least 1 accident b/c I saw his undies by the toilet (he's asleep again now). We had him go pee right before bed and then DH got him up around 11p to go again.
We have a waterproof mattress pad on the bed, but I reaaaalllly don't want to be doing middle of the night sheet changes. Last night, I put down a row of towels and then a blanket over that, so that DH could just strip the towels and replace the blanket.
What kinds of tips do you mommas have?

Re: night time potty training- tips, products, etc. please
You can cut him off from all fluids a few hours before bedtime.
Other than that, I don't know.
We double up sheets on the bed. Water resistant pad, waterproof pad, sheet, waterproof pad, sheet, people, top sheet, blanket. When she has an accident we strip off the wet sheet and pad them go right back to sleep. Takes less than 5 minutes.
We did a few role plays in the beginning, too. We all pretended to be asleep in bed then I whispered to H "Oh no! You just woke up and have to go potty! What do you do?" and she went through the routine. We did it a couple times and it really helped.
She rarely wakes up enough to do it independently though, so when I hear her stir around 12-1am I put her on the potty then back to bed. DH does the same when he wakes up (a few hours before us). She doesn't even open her eyes or remember it at all, but she pees a couple seconds after she sits down. It's Pavlovian, lol.
Oh, and she doesn't wear anything from the waist down. If she does, it's a guaranteed accident. She was like that during the day for awhile, too.
You can buy the waterproof sheeting by the yard at Joann's, the good stuff is flannel on both sides of vinyl. It's near the cutting table. Doesn't need to be hemmed or anything but it does shrink over time. I bought enough to completely span our king sized bed and after a couple months it's about a foot too short.
ooooh, I like the double sheet trick.
we did the towel thing when we started nap time undies.
my kid has a bm every single night so we're no where near ready for night time undies, but a friend out here suggested:
give him a potty in his room and he goes to bed w/ just his pj bottoms no undies so it's less to mess with. She said she didn't limit drinking and that it takes a while especially for boys, to have their brains and need to use the bathroom connected.
good luck MC
