Re: ***First Year Check-In***
Bah! My last one!
Happy Birthday, again, to my baby.
I am hoping that Santa will bring Alice an anywhere chair and some new books. I am also working on making her a stocking.
Alice took her first steps the week before last and now is walking across the room if we encourage her. Yesterday at lunch there were several mommies visiting and she starting walking. Everyone stopped talking to watch her and then clapped when she reached the toy she was going for. It was such a sweet moment. I am so proud of my big girl!
Yay for a walking Alice!
QOTW: DD will be getting a red tricycle. And a bath robe. That might seem weird, but she's OBSESSED with wearing her little bath robes she had when she was a baby, and they don't even cover her butt anymore. Girlfriend needs a robe that fits. DS will be getting...I don't know. Books? DH will probably kill me if I buy more books, but I can't really think of anything else he (DS, not DH) needs.
Updates: After doing great in the sleep dept for a couple of weeks (sleeping on avg 9-10 hours), this week DS has started waking up in the middle of the night again. Last night it was at 1 a.m. and it took a couple of trips in (the first of which involved feeding him) to get him settled back to sleep. I have discovered that I have a lot more patience for night wakings than I thought I might. We didn't have to deal with any of this with DD, but I don't really mind getting up with him once a night. I'm not planning on doing any kind of sleep training any time soon and am still holding out hope that once we start solids, he'll drop his night feeding on his own.
QOTW: We were going to get him a bouncer thing, but he is obsessed with the one at daycare so we got it for him early. He will probably just get a few books and maybe a highchair. I doubt he cares.
Update: My boy loves to bounce. Like seriously loves it. We have to prop him a little because the seat is so big, and he needs a box so his feet have something to hit against, but he is one happy bouncing boy.
We had to start supplementing one bottle a day with formula. It was hard, but I'm getting over it, since he seems to be happier. This weekend will be the test, to see if he will actually take a nap since he won't be starving.
I am worried about torticollis with him. He had a traumatic birth and his head is still a a bit misshapen. He favors one side a lot. I'm going to try to get him in with my chiro this week or next to see if she can help release that muscle before his 4 month appointment. I don't want him to have to have a helmet.
Oh add me please! DD 7/7/11 (and DS 5/28/09)
QOTW: I'm so glad you asked this since I have no idea. I'm having a friend make her a stocking to match ours but I think that's about all we are doing. And I have no idea what to get C either. Ugh!
Update: I can't believe she is 4 months old already!! She is smiling a lot (especially at her big brother
. I think she is starting the 4-month wakeful period since her normal rock star sleeping is no longer. She has started waking up during the night and I just feed her to get her back to sleep. I know it's a bad habit to start but she is really good about falling asleep on her own when I put her to bed initially. Actually she only woke once this morning at 4:30 then slept until 8am. She is still a MUCH better sleeper than C though!
Update: He'll be 6-months old tomorrow! How is that possible?!? He has been sleeping horribly lately. He's not napping at day care (literally he slept 15 minutes around noon, and 10 minutes right at 5pm when i got there). He's been waking up screaming crying (he used to just wake up and stir -- i could hear him rooting around for his paci). Might be gas? i have no idea what to do. He needs to be napping during the day and he's not. And he's not sleeping good at night. Confession: he sleeps with me after he wakes around midnight-1pm cause I'm just too exhausted to be making a million trips into his room at night. Its a habit we really need to break but I'm totally at a loss.
QOTW: I think I'm going to get her that Laugh and Learn Puppy and then I bought her a hat/headband set from etsy yesterday. Little girl still has no hair and we're going to rock the accessories in the meantime. My mom said she wants to get her one of the ball poppers and I suggested some blocks to keep in Indiana. Not sure about everyone else. My sister will undoubtedly go overboard on cute clothes, which I love.
Update: We went to Minnesota this past weekend and she rocked it, as usual. Her third plane trip and she did great, even though she no longer sleeps the whole time and we actually have to entertain her. Hooray for a bag of chips for her beat to hell and the oball. Direct flights are SO much easier than layovers. She got to meet her great grandpa and all of her aunts/uncles/2nd cousins on her dad's mom's side. She looked super cute in her little fancy dress and did great at the reception (slept in her stroller so that I could stay until about 10). It was also her first time in a hotel and it was OK. she doesn't sleep well in a pack and play, so there were a lot of pacifier-put-ins throughout the night, but overall, it was fine. I also got to buy her some clothes from H&M at the Mall of 'Merica.
She's also sitting up all on her own now! Who needs rolling when we can sit up! ha! 6-month birthday tomorrow, just like flyboy.
QOTW: i bought DS an anywhere last week on sale. other than that he'll probably get books and hopefully clothes from the g-parents.
Updates: We had DS's 4 month appointment this morning and his head size has officially fallen off the growth charts. he was <5%. So we were referred to a cranial specialist at dell and also PT to try to get him to roll earlier to help keep him off his back to help combat the flatness.
otherwise, everything else was great. he's hitting all his milestones and laughing smiling, and talking all the time.
There are some seriously awesome updates in here!
QOTW: I'm thinking a Cozy Coupe, a ukelele, and a couple Mellissa and Doug toys I'm obsessed with right now. She as a birthday right after Christmas, so we have some shopping to do!
Update: Walking is still really just individual steps. She took two in a row to me last night, but it's mostly just one step here and one step there. Also, she's shocked me with her vocabularly. I thought she'd be walking long before she was using words, but she's picking up words so fast. Words with meaning: Mom-Mom (my mother AND me), Dada (her Dad and my Dad), Dog, Bird, Hi. She also says No, but she doesn't really get the concept or is using it correctly, by any means.
Ooooh and best of all? We're pitching fits. It's AWESOME (not). Last night I shut a door to a room, and she threw herself on her back, arched and all, and started screaming. She opened her eyes and realized I wasn't standing there anymore, crawled to where I was, and resumed the fit.
I could have sworn I gave you DD's birth date: 8/23/11
QOTW: The only things I have so far are lots of English/Spanish books, an exersaucer, and a high chair. I'm sure I'll come across a few other things from reading y'all's ideas.
Update: DH is in Germany for two weeks so it's just me and Sweet Cheeks! One week down, one week to go! DD did STTN on Friday for the first time yay! I was sure it was just a coincidence but then she did it again Monday night and Tuesday night! Woohoo! Last night though she got up around 4 and was pretty restless until I got up at 5:30. At least it's a start! :-)
QOTW: a savings account. what every baby wants! my parents will probably give him a red envelope of money and maybe an outfit or two. his other grandparents will give him... i dunno... a bunch of little stuff from big lots that i'll have to figure out where to store. :-)
Update: he dropped a night feeding but still wakes up from a wet diaper or when he gets his arms out of the swaddle. he's handling my fast letdown SO much better now, and i think that's making a huge difference with our breastfeeding relationship. hopefully we'll finally get into our stride soon and i won't feel all bent out of shape and exhausted.
QOTW: hum i have no idea. i was just making gift lists and kinda forgot about dd
it's hard cause she gets "gifts" as she needs stuff now but i do want to get her more books. i want a foam playmat maybe i can pass that off as a present for her!
update: she's doing great. started rice cereal. only waking once at night to eat. we just started using a jumper and she loves it! i love seeing her play and laughing in it. i wish i could stay home all day and watch her in it!
Dx with endo & blocked left tube - TTC #1 for 29 cycles before miracle BFP, #2 - Surprise!!
My TTC/PG blog / Panda Phenomenon Explained
QOTW: I have no idea. none. I went to costco today, they have a TON of stuff - play kitchens, activity mat, an around we go thing, a baby einstein bundle with like 8 toys. might be worth a look for everyone else or at least pass the word along to relatives and whatnot.
update: sleep has been a little better the past few days (knock on wood), he's "only" waking around midnight and 5am, then he's up for a bit before going back down until 7ish. still sucks but it's better! he's been going to sleep around 6pm instead of his usually 7 pre-DST. and he rolls like it's nobody's business - changing his clothes and/or diaper takes a good 5 minutes now!
