Dont hate me...Christmas gift question.

I am one of those people. I shop way early.

For your kids, so you have a set amount you spend on each child or do you have a certain number of gifts you buy? Or do you just buy until you feel like stopping? :) I feel at Lilly's age, the more the better, so I am leaning toward having a certain number of gifts for each child instead of spending a certain amount. I know Owen doesnt really get it but I want things to be even bc Lilly does understand it now.

  • I just decided what I wanted to get them and then got it and just made sure the number of gifts weren't way out-balanced.  At my kid's ages, it doesn't seem like it would really matter.

  • We have a basic idea of what we'd like to spend.  If we go slightly over or under, no biggie.  There are two more expensive things he keeps asking for this year, so he's getting those and a few smaller things and we'll call it a day.

  • I answered 5-6 gifts on an earlier poll.  I'm not going to stay at the same price range per child because the younger one's toys are going to be less costly than the older one's.

I really want to TRY and stay within a present limit because we live in a small apartment and their room is already busting at the seams with stuff, plus I know they will get a few gifts from grandparents, their favorite uncle, my best friend, ect. Right now I'm making a list of everything I want them to have and I'm trying to *prune* the list, LOL, and also give some of the things I prune as suggestions to other people (they always ask, most already have)

Oh, and I think once Nov. 1st hits, Christmas talk is fair game!!  I'm not into the decorating at this point, IMO, but the shopping, discussion, planning ect. should be expected!

  • I just make sure they have an equal amount of gifts, dollar value is never the same.  They don't go looking up the prices of the items.
  • I have a (ballpark) set amount in mind for each child.  I try very hard to spend the same amount of money on each of them (give or take a few dollars).  I know that they don't know what I spent, but I do and I like to be fair.
  • I'm an early shopper too.  I want to get DH a few 'fun' things (since I bought him a bunch of clothes), but otherwise, I'm finished shopping for him.  I'm about 2/3 of the way through shopping for Jordan.  I've only bought Ben one thing so far, but plan to hit the toy sale (w/ coupons) at Target in the next week or so.

  • I must be the odd one out.  We have a $100 budget and that will stay the budget until they are in their teen years and then it will go up to $150 (give or take around $10).  We'll aim for around the same number of gifts but if one kid gets a couple more because of cost that's not a huge deal.

  • We try to set a budget on toys...last year 100/per kid.  This year I am changing it up a bit...DD asked for a scooter, so she is getting that, dance clothes, and some other clothes.  That's it..she has so many toys that I will let the grandparents give her those.  Just sick of spending so much on toys...she loves them, but I know she would love the scooter more!

  • I only have DD, but I just shop til I am done.  Her Birthday is in February, so a couple of things end up being Birthday gifts.

I have started small with her.  I think it's hard to start out giving them a crap ton of stuff and then taper it off when the things they want become more expensive.  This is the first year some of the things on DD's list were in the $50 and over range.  We also have started paring down her toys.
