Bouncer

DS sits in his bouncer seat in the bathroom while I shower and get ready in the morning. I know that once he can sit up unassisted, he can no longer sit in it. What can I do when we reach that point? We have hard tile floors in our house, so I'm not so sure how comfortable I feel about letting him sit on the floor while I'm in the shower.

Re: Bouncer

  • Violet will sit in her Bumbo for several minutes while I get ready in the mornings.  She likes to play with books and her toes in the seat, and she can't roll around the floor that way.  :)

  • Exersaucer?? I'm still using the RNP randomly too.  But, she doesn't tolerate it well, because she is so into rolling over/sitting. Same with the Bumbo...she just arches her back and gets ticked.  So, right now it's all about the exersaucer/jumperoo.

You can also put LO in their crib while you shower. The crib is always a safe spot and I know she's okay in there for a minute (or 10) if I need to set her down.

  • Now that LO is more predictable, I get up 30 minutes before he does, and have quick shower/make-up/blow dry. Not ideal, but I enjoy it more when I'm alone. Could you get ready while LO is napping?

  • Doesn't the bouncer have straps? can you fasten the straps while he's in it? DS won't tolerate the bumbo for for than a couple minutes, he arches his back or tries to "jump" off the sides. I've brought the exersaucer in there before but what has really worked for me is leaving him in his pnp while I shower as long as I leave a couple toys and I bring the monitor with me.
  • Most of the time I get to shower while he is sleeping but if he is awake I will lay a large bath towel on the floor of the bathroom with some tub toys and let DS play on that while I shower.

Other times if he is not fussy I will put him in his crib with a couple of toys, turn his mobile on and then I bring the baby monitor into the bathroom with me.  The bathroom is across the hall from his room so I can check in on him between showering, getting dressed and doing my hair.

  • The Bumbo isn't a bad idea, although he does arch his back and lean out sometimes. The exersaucer is a great idea. We don't have one, but I've been thinking about getting one. I definitely look into it! Thanks for the input ladies :)

This won't work.  Learned that lesson the hard way with DS!  He sat up in the bouncer and the straps only go across their lap- and he fell over forward right out of the bouncer.  Luckily I was right there and it was on soft carpet.  But DD has already started sitting up in the bouncer (which, BTW, is so cute and cracks me up!) so it's time to put it away.

  • I think exersaucer, too.  Maybe you could borrow one for a little while or get a used one for upstairs.

  • The Rainforest jumperoo is the best fifty bucks I've spent lately. It's too big to haul from room to room, though.

I'm still letting him roll around on the bathroom floor with his toys, though. He doesn't seem to mind.

  • We live in a  one story and I just haul the rainforest jumperoo thing into the bedroom and leave the door and shower door open so i can peek out at him.  He loves jumping in that thing!  If you don't have one I highly recommend getting one.
  • Have you tried sitting him on the floor with a boppy around him? We just surround our little guy with pillows in case he topples over. Although, I think you will find it doesn't take long for them to stay sitting for a while. Our LO barely ever falls over now, unless he reaches too far for a toy.
