Someone explain Pinterest to me

A friend invited me to join.  She tried to explain what it is, but she's new to it also.  It sounds like something I'd love, since I'm kind of the crafty type.  But what exactly is it and how do you use it?

    It's a place for you to Pin items that you find yourself online, or you can search through other people's pins and also find things that way.  There are so many ideas on there... From baking to interior design to personal style.  Pretty much anything you can think of. 

    It's VERY addicting and very awesome.  I know I've found sooo many great ideas and recipes on there. Sometimes I just can't stop looking though... there's so much!!! : )

    Yes, and instead of just seeing a description, you see a picture of the item you pinned. Plus if you follow people, then the things they pin show up on your news feed. When I log in I see never ending delicious food, ingenious tips and tricks, neat crafts and DIY. It's so awesome.

    ETA. Oh and you can make different catergories in which to pin things. I have a food board, my style board, home style board, tips and tricks board, DIY make sew board, etc.

    I just joined, but I also created a Christmas Wishlist for myself and DD in case anyone in my family comes across it and wants to buy us something they know we want or need. I guess it's almost as bad as a registry, but I use it for other things like wedding planning and recipes too.
