Did you do the wooden letter names?

I didn't want to do this at first because it's so trendy but I think it would be cute in our nursery.  Did any of you do this?  Did you hang them from ribbons?  Is there a site that explains how to do it?  A picture would be great if you did!

Re: Did you do the wooden letter names?

  • I did it.  I was going to use ribbons but then found letters at michaels with predrilled nail holes and decided not to add the cost of the ribbon to the project.

  • Loading the player...
  • my letters are paper mache of some kind from the paper source. i decopaged them with a heavy wrapping paper also from the paper source. they stand up on a shelf. i posted a PIP earlier today of my nursery and you can see them there.

This pic is from when I did DD1's room. The letters came with ribbon or drilled holes in the back and I chose to just skip the ribbon. The letters were already in the color I wanted and in Clearance at TRU.

We're in the process of changing this and have taken away the wooden letter idea. I just made frames with the girls' names to go with the new version of this room

  • Yup. Mine are in bright rainbow colors. DH still has to hang them over his crib. We are using the nail holes that came pre drilled into the back.

  • We didn't because we're keeping our name a secret until after he's born and there's no way to keep friends/family out of the nursery until he is born.  It's definitely trendy, but it's trendy for a reason - they look super cute.  If you like them, go for it!

  • Havent done hers yet but Im planning on doing this:

I felt like it was a little different than doing her entire name (and I already have something else that's going behind her crib). I still wanted to do the monogram letter but I like the idea of framing it to take up more space with the burlap background (her entire room is shabby chic so it really fits well).

  • I did not do names but I did get letters for DS's 1 year & 2 year pictures.  So, I'm not much help on how to do the names on the wall BUT I do have a good website to get the letters.  They have a TON of fonts & you can get almost any size letter for a really reasonable cost.

  • I bought the letters from Joanne Fabric and painted them blue and brown to match our sons nursery.  I used command strips to hang them, worked great for me.  I thought the ribbon would look to girly seeing as we are having a boy.

  • I bought the plain letters from hobby lobby, attached scrapbook paper and ribbon-then hung them up.

  • I got metal signs with the letters of his name on them from Hobby Lobby. Each letter is a different color and the are "aged" and will go perfectly with our nautical theme. I also thought they looked much more masculine than the traditional wooden letters.

  • I got mine on sale at BRU BOGO and they have predrilled holes that we will most likely use.  I've just got to paint them back white because the color I picked I didn't like so I'm reverting back to white unless some other thought crosses my mind.

  • My DH made them for DD1 and in the process of sanding DD2's name now.  We're not hanging DD2's name just yet because her name is a secret until after her birth.  With DD1's name he didn't make it until after her birth because we were team green.

  • We are having the guests at my shower paint the alphabet. So it is the letters but a different version, not the name. We bought probably 5 different styles so it'll be mix/match and fun! We are going to hang some with ribbons and others without, maybe even put a few on small shelves.

  • I didn't want big letters across the wall...I wanted something a little more subtle and smaller to put over the changing table since we already had stuff over the crib.

Got smaller letters from Hobby Lobby. Painted the letters and a plaque to put them on to matched the bedding.

The plaque is pictured in my signature and it's hung with ribbon.

  • I got them for DS and for DD at Michaels. DS were a little more, but bigger and we hung them with some Comand wall tape, it does not damage the wall and is really strong. DD wall letters are thinner and I bought ribbon at Walmart (for .45 cents and I did not use the whole roll). I stapeled it on the back and it worked really well. DS letters are all the same color, DD letters are a hot pink on the front, and an orange on the side so when you look from the side it gives it a pop of color.

  • I'm back and forth with the letters/name. It is awful trendy...but a great way to personalize!

If I do something I will probably buy the cardboard ones and cover them in matching fabric. Since we're having a boy I don't really want to do the ribbon to hang them.
