Belly comparisons

So, I am 21 weeks and 5 days. Last night, I went to a class at the hospital for 16-30 week expecting parents. There were women there from 17 weeks to 27 weeks. The girl I was right next to was 27 weeks and she didn't even have a bump...same thing with this one lady who was skinnier than I'll ever be even if I stopped eating for a year. The other 27 week lady was pretty darn pregnant looking, but everyone else barely had a belly. I feel like I am closer to the 27 week lady than the non-showing 17 week lady. I walked out there feeling like a house.

Anyone else comparing belly size?

Re: Belly comparisons

  • Everyone is built differently therefore we carry differently.  Also if this is your 2nd, 3rd or 4th baby then sometimes you're also going to get a little bigger sooner.

  • I have been totally doing belly comparisons.I too feel like a house compared to the tiny bumps I've seen. But when have we ever not compared our bodies with other women?  I think we just have to accept the fact that every woman is different and some people show more than others.

  • It's hard NOT to compare.  But I had to accept that it is what it is and there's not a whole lot I can do about it except rock it. :)

1st pregnancy...if it were a multiple pregnancy issue I might feel better. =) I'll suck it up to the fact that I did not have horrible morning sickness and I am really short so...nowhere for this thing to go but forward and to the side!

  • Yeah, I do it all the time on here and in real life. I get really bummed that I have no bump. Everyone I know has a bump by now and looks cute. I get jealous.

THIS. I had a good old hormonal cry-fest on the weekend because everyone in my pre-natal yoga class had adorable bumps except me! I'm trying REALLY hard to get over it, but it's really hard for me.

It IS really hard! ALL of my friends had cute bumps by 16-18 weeks. I feel like I'm just growing sideways and getting some more chunk. It also scares me because I'm worried I'll pop and grow like crazy all at once and it will hurt and I'll have tons of stretch marks. I know that sounds dumb... but still.

I'll cross my fingers for me and you that we get our cute bumps soon!

Thank you! I'll cross my fingers for us too! :)  That made me feel better.

  • I don't b/c I know we are all different.  I ran and still run so my doc said my ab muscles keep me from getting bigger right away.  I swore everyone at my office was further along than me when I said " Everyone is more pregnant than me"  The np said the last three ladies I checked are all behind you I was like holy hell and I though I was showing lots.  Everyone is different.  My friend looked big since like 13 weeks but she only gained 23 lbs but everyone was constantly telling her how HUGE she was.  We all hold our weight, and baby different so you can't be too upset.  And know it goes both ways, I have belly envy and if I was bigger I'd have tiny belly envy.

This is what I am afraid of, i still look chunky but if I pop too quick my skin might have trouble stretching which worries me.  I go through spurts like over weekend I pop a lil then no growth for like 2 weeks then again.

  • Oh yes, I am. Especially because I went from no belly to what I feel is huge in only a few weeks! I am obsessed with staring at other pregnant bellies. I always want to approach them and ask how far along they are (I NEVER will, don't worry  Wink ). I totally compare, mostly because I find pregnancy and all of it pretty fascinating.

  • I saw a friend of mine last year 3 days before she delivered. She is ALL torso, but barely showed at all. The entire time. She was 39 weeks and it looked like she had a half-deflated basketball stuffed up her shirt, but looked exactly the same everywhere else!
  • I totally eyeball other ladies bellies!!  Not in a bad way, but more because I find it so fascinating how differently we all carry!!

What is also interesting is other people's perceptions.  The nurses at my Dr's office say I'm so tiny, then a friend of mine said I was pretty big for 21 weeks--all in the same 2 days!

Me and my Kiwi, both 38.  We struggled with RPL and were blessed with Micah.  I'm a full custody stepmom to Ethan!

  • I have 3 friends who are within weeks of me and I'm bigger than all of them. They aren't even in maternity jeans yet! I get self-conscientious around them, but the other day, my friend was so jealous and rubbing my belly (she's been really sick, poor thing). So I'm embracing my big bump, but I WILL punch someone if I hear, "you sure there's just one in there?" again! :)

  • I haven't, not with other women. I have been comparing my belly with this pregnancy and my first, just for fun, to see how much bigger I'm getting than with DD.
  • I went to my first class last night too and i was the biggest with the latest due date. There were women in there due as soon as thanksgiving. It was a little depressing. But, I'm glad I've read these posts, they make me feel a little better. Each woman does carry different and there's no reason why I shoul compare myself to others.
  • I try not to, but sometimes I can't help it. When I see all these other pregnant women I get jealous because they look so good with their big cute bellies, and I swear I just look fat. :-(

  • There is this girl i know who is due well actually i believe she got induced today! but she was due within this week or next and she was very tiny o begin with. I'm 21 weeks and somedays i looked more pregnant than her! when she told me how far she was i was stunned!

  • I'm as big as a house and I friggin' love it! I look very pregnant. Wayyyyyy pregnant and this is only my first child. It's cool though because before I didn't show and I just felt fat and now it's like 'woah she is carrying a baby' lol. Look at the bright side of things, baby is growing, everyone is healthy and you look pregnant. Who cares how big you are or get as long as you stay healthy and keep that little one safe! :)

  • And P.S. my sister in law who is drop dead gorgeous and skinny as can be has the smallest cutest little bump - she still wears regular jeans...we are due 5 days apart. Sucks for me but I choose to ignore it...haha until we are in the same room then the jealousy monster comes out of me!
