Didn't someone say they own a Nikon P500?

Can you give me a quick review of it?  The flash on my Panasonic Lumix point and shoot died recently and it needs a lot of light to get good pictures, so DH is going to get me a new camera for an early Christmas present.

This one looks awesome and I'm reeeeeally leaning towards it.  Price is not an issue as he's going to get it through his company's rewards program, but that also means that I will not have a store that I can just take it back to if I don't like it.  That makes it such a big committment, it's freaking me out!

Please tell me how you like working with it!  I know very little about photography, but I would like to learn but still be able to use good auto modes for quick pictures.  Thanks so much!

Re: Didn't someone say they own a Nikon P500?

  • I have had mine since May and I'm not in love with it like I hoped I would be for the money. It takes awesome pictures most of the time outside but I can not for the life of me seem to get the settings right (even in auto mode w/ or w/o a flash) inside so that the pictures don't come out grainy. I was hoping for a little better "auto" mode for such a nice camera. Maybe it's just my inexperience but I'm on the fence about it. Although I have been able to edit some of my pictures (just using the standard edit features on my computer not photoshop) to make the lighting better or change some of the coloring. I guess I was hoping with a camera of this caliber I wouldn't need to do so much editing. Also, I have had a hard time with the shutterspeed. If I have it set the way the manual suggest for a quick pictures it is never in focus. It seems as though I can either get great color and light but a blurred picture or a focused picture but bad lighting and color. Rarely have I gotten both at the same time! Like I said though, I am far from an experienced photographer!

  • See, this is exactly what I was worried about.  I am not an experienced photographer either - far from it - and my needs are very similar to yours.  Maybe I should keep looking...

Thanks so much for the info!
