Vaccination ?

DH and I were talking about vaccinations for our LO. We both seem to be on the fence about it (mostly because we have not researched it). Wanted to get an idea from you ladies on what you are planning to do or have done.

Are you doing all?

Picking some ?

Not doing any at all?

Re: Vaccination ?

  • We are getting all vaccinations for LO.

BTW, I think most daycares/schools require current and up to date vaccinations before allowing a child to attend - something to keep in mind.

  • We will be vaccinating our LO with all the recommended shots. :)
  • We are getting all vaccinations. Because we want our child to live.

  • We plan to fully vaccinate our child (barring some type of allergic reaction or a similar reason why our child should not get vaccinated.)

  • We will be getting all vaccinations for the LO...we may do it on a delayed schedule however. We haven't decided this part yet.

I recently found out when I got my genetic testing done that I am not fully immune to chicken pox (even though I was hospitalized for it when I was a child it was that bad) I will be getting a chicken pox vaccine along with my LO.

Unfortunately, this varies by state.  Most states (I think all) allow for a medical exception (so if your child cannot be vaccinated, they can still attend) and some allow for a religious exception, and a few allow for philosophical exceptions.

  • We haven't researched them all yet, but we know that we won't be getting the chicken pox vaccine.  We'll definitely be getting all the basic ones like MMR, polio, etc.

I figured some places might be more lax about it but for the most part I've come across places that are pretty stringent - maybe just because most of them are daycares?  I'm not sure - but it's good to know.  Thanks!

  • We are doing all the recommended vaccines. Couldn't see not vaccinating my child. Not sure they can go to daycare/school without them, anyway (nor would I want them to).

  • All the "yes" replies make me so happy! The studies that were performed that showed a link to autism were falsified, and the doctor that first went public with the connection can no longer practice medicine. Needless to say, I will definitely be vaccinating my child.

  • We will definitely be vaccinating our LO at the recommended times.  I'm not someone who is very forthcoming with my opinions, but I really feel strongly that parents should have kids vaccinated.  It's ashame that there is so much inaccurate information.  Parents have enough to worry and be anxious about without these made-up scare tactics about vaccinations.  OK....rant over!

  • We follow the CDC guidelines with DD.  We will do the same with this LO.  Our licensed inhome DCP requires us to show proof that DD has had her vaccines.  It will be the same with LO2.

The whole thing with Autism and vaccines has been disproven anyway, not that it ever would have effected my decision.  I would rather have an autistic child than one living in an iron lung because I chose not to vaccinate (extremes yes - but my conclusion on the vaccine debate).

  • Absolutely. My first two are vaccinated on schedule and this one will be as well. I side eye the hell out of people who don't vaccinate (valid reasons like SEVERE allergic reactions aside). I think it is so irresponsible.

  • BTW, do NOT read stories about babies who died due to not getting vaccinated or people around them not being vaccinated. I am absolutely bawling at work. Pure ugly crying.

"I believe had she been vaccinated she would still be alive today, and I would be able to hear her laughter."

  • I will be following a delayed schedule. The standard schedule begins at birth with a shot for Hep B. That vaccine has BOTH Aluminum and formaldehyde (thimerosal) in it.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to have some time with my baby before I go injecting that kind of stuff into her.

One of the big pushes of the vaccine industry, is to develop vaccines that do not use thimerosal as a preservative. They know it's bad. I don't care where you stand on the vaccines cause autism, etc debate this fact is true.

My work with non-verbal behavior in the past has trained me to ALWAYS have a baseline before I do anything. Therefore, I firmly believe I will be taking my baby home, and coming back for the immunizations.

That said, yes, I will get all of the required ones. No flu shot, because I have never had it, and I have never had the flu. Same with DH.

Because DS went to daycare at 10 weeks we did the recommended schedule. With this LO we may space out vaccinations, simply because I will be home and we can.

  • Those who do not vaccinate their children (unless they are allergic) are putting others at risk and are INSANELY IRRESPONSIBLE.

Please please please vaccinate... there is no reason not to.

All of this. Absolutely, PLEASE vaccinate your child. Not only is it irresponsible to expose your child to serious, life-threatening illnesses by not vaccinating, it is irresponsible to those around us who are sick or for other reasons legitimately cannot receive vaccinations to increase their risk of exposure and death!

  • We are getting them but are going to do it on a different schedule.  I had severe reactions to the Hep B vaccine and boosters, and DH reacted to one of the early shots. Can't remember which one. Anyway, we'd rather not have a pedi appointment where they give them tons of shots. I'd want to be able to monitor and see how LO is doing so I knew which one it was that caused a reaction.

  • Our LO will be getting all vaccinations. I am a nurse in a school in IL and there is a required vaccination schedule but we do allow medical objections with a signed form from the Doctor and/or religious objections with the parents signing a legal form and basically writing an essay on why their beliefs prevent them from vaccinating their child.

  • This LO will be getting all of his/her vaccinations, but just on a delayed schedule. We are doing the same with DS.

  • We will at least be delaying. We will research each individual vaccination, it's risk, and the risk of the illness if the child contracted it and then decide which ones to get and when to get them.

I've known several children to have mild to severe reactions to vaccinations.

We won't be getting the chicken pox vaccine. I actually got chicken pox FROM the vaccine. So, rather pointless. If our kid didn't contract it by a certain age then we'd recommend they get the vaccine because of shingles later, but that age would probably be in their teens and therefore a decision to make for themselves.

  • We'll be doing all vaccinations and on schedule, as it stands now.

We're both in the field of childcare so it's a very touchy subject for us. I think a lot more people would vaccinate if they lived through a generation where children were still dying or being permanently disfigured by preventable illnesses.

I will say that I'm happy to see so many positive vaccination responses. :)

  • Definitely doing all vaccinations, like I am doing w/ my son.

  • We're doing all the recommended vaccines with DS, and will with LO as well because I haven't found enough legitimate research to convince me not to. And I'm not okay with my kids getting polio or smallpox or something ridiculous and preventable like that just because it's a controversial issue.

Although, I'm really undecided about the flu shot. We gave it to DS this year, and he had a bad reaction to it. I haven't had mine yet and I'm not sure I want to.

  • I'm glad there is an overwhelming response for  pro-vaccination.  When I was pregnant with DD, the response to this post would have been the opposite!  I felt like the minority then (just a couple years ago)!
