Breastfeeding

Tommee Tippee most like the breast?

Breastfeeding is going pretty well but I do want DH to be able to feed LO with a bottle in a few weeks. I already have a pump but no bottles. I am thinking about getting this Tommee Tippee bottle. Would you say this is most like the breast? We don't want a nipple confusion problem. TIA!

  • Not sure about Tommee Tippee, but we used Breastflow bottles starting at a month and never had issues with nipple confusion.

There is no such thing as nipple confusion.  Babies are smart - they know the difference between real nipple and bottle nip.  They develop preferences, not confusion.

That being said, babies also can have a preference on types of bottles.  We went through four types of bottles (I originally only got the breastflow bottles) and he didn't like any of them and refused them.  We bought tommee tippee bottles and he takes them very well.  I think they are a lot like the breast, but again - baby knows the difference between bottle and breast.

  • I went tru 4 different types of bottles (Breastflow (horrible), Avent, Medela, & TT) because of leaking issues, gas, etc.

Every baby is different. But Tommee Tippee bottles worked for my DD.

Her latched even improved. I got the ones for colics and they worked pretty well. And most importanly no leaks.

I love them and would recommend them.

Interesting. My LC said to wait a few weeks because of nipple confusion. Well I guess I don't want LO preferring the bottle over the breast. Hmm.

I am going to check out breastflow bottles. Thanks everyone!

This.  The best price is at Kolhs.  No idea why they have only those bottles but they do and at the best price.

  • Another NICU nurse here and I agree with the other NICU nurse. LC's love the idea of nipple confusion because it encourages their preference ten fold. They want you to breastfeed and feel it is the only way to feed your little one. They feel if they tell you about nipple confusion it will scare you to never touch a bottle.  It's not and you shouldn't feel guilty for wanting or needing to bottle feed as well. You may have to try several bottles to see what your baby likes best but even the tiniest of babies can do both bottle and breast right from the start or even after only having had bottles for a few months while hospitalized and then can switch very well over to breast as they get closer to going home. You will do great!
