Hello. Can someone give me suggestions for breakfast for my 16 month old? He is allergic to dairy and peanuts. I have tried so many things! It's making me crazy because he winds up not eating breakfast. Does anyone know if Carnation Instant Breakfast (the powder) contains dairy?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Nancy

Yeah, this is our most challenging meal too. My son has the same allergies, and eggs as well. If you are looking for something quick, gerber makes the oatmeal with fruit trays, near the baby food, that is dairy free. I usually keep a stash of cut up fruit in the fridge, like peaches, apples, and plums (I usually soften the apples and peaches in the microwave for a few seconds). I also cook up allergy free mini muffins and freeze them, and just take out enough for the week. Namaste Foods has an allergy free muffin mix that I just add fruit and purees or sugar to. I also have had luck with crumbled turkey sausage by Jimmy dean and soy daiya cheese toast sticks. I use Ezekiel bread and a little earth balance, and sprinkle on the daiya cheese and bake. Once the cheese is melted, I cut the toast into bite-sized pieces, so that DS can feed himself. Some mornings we do soy yogurt with cherrios and juice. I did find that eventhough the sesame street waffles claimed to be allergy free, my son had a reaction to them, so we don't do those anymore. It is hard since they are at the age where they want to be independent and feed themselves, but with us it is trial and error.
we don't eat it b/c we have a soy allergy
before his allergy, I have made it from scratch for myself (I'm a vegetarian), never purchased it from a package.
I suggest going to a Vegan restaurant and ordering it there .. it tastes sooo good!
ALSO - you can go on youtube and search a tofu scramble video -shows you step by step.
DD currently eats coconut yogurt, plain whole grain toast, and a banana or other fruit for breakfast.
You are not limited to "breakfast foods" You could feed his lunch/dinner favorites at breakfast time.

These are things my milk, egg, peanut and tree nut allergic DS eats regularly for breakfast:
Cereal (Rice Krispies, Gorilla Munch, etc.) with soy milk, fruit
Bagel with Tofutti "cream cheese" or soy butter and cinnamon
Banana Dog - hot dog bun with soy nut butter and jam and a whole banana in the bun.
Pancakes or waffles and syrup - I use Food Allergy Mama's recipe and make enough to freeze. Just microwave for a few seconds to heat them up.

If eggs aren't an issue maybe try mini egg quiches made in a muffin pan. They can be premade and just reheated if you are in a time crunch. There are tons of combinations online with different veggies and meat options. You could easily leave out the dairy or use a substitute if it calls for cheese or milk. Good for protein plus you can sneak in veggies.
We also do plain waffles, pancakes, oatmeal made with applesauce or smashed fruit, cinnamon toast, banana bread. My son prefers things he can pick up and feed himself.
