So I am having a c section in about 3 weeks due to complete placenta previa. I am extremely nervous about having a c-section ( duh, it's major surgery) and recovery. Is it really something to be that worked up over? After delivery of DS, I thought- wow, that wasn't so bad! Did anyone have that thought ( before recovery)? I hope that I am just getting myself all worked up over nothing and don't want to be an absolute wreck when the day finally arrives!

Re: C-sections- is it everything it's cracked up to be?
Personally I don't think it's something to be worked up about at all. I never wanted to have a C-Section however, after 11 days overdue, and two rounds of cervidil to try and induce me with nothing happening....my DH and I decided to have it done. I had a great experience with it --my recovery was nothing to painful (just limited for the first couple weeks with lifting heavy objects and couldn't walk too far or too fast). I was surprised at how much I didn't mind it. This is my first child so I can't compare to a natural birth.
The worst part of it for me was the night she was born, I was unable to get out of bed to get her and had to rely on DH to change diapers and bring her to me for feedings.
Good Luck!
I would try not to get worked up over it and try to focus on the joy of your baby almost being here. Is the recovery more difficult than a normal, vaginal birth? Sure, but it's not the worst thing in the world either.
Depending on how old your other LO is, I would try to make sure you have a support network so that you can stay off of your feet as much as you can for a little bit. Other than that, I wouldn't worry.
The only bad thing about my c/s was being separated from DD for three hours due to hospital policy. Had that not happened it would have been a perfectly fine experience.
I had an easy recovery, BFing went (and continues to go) great. I still wouldn't have chosen it, but it wasn't bad at all.

Personally I think it is SO much easier than most people say it is. The first couple of days are painful as to be expected but the more you get up and move the easier it is. I EBF and had absolutely no problem with it. I was fortunate enough to able to be with my son the entire time and he was put right into my arms as I was wheeled to the PACU and we were able to start BFing there.
GL!!!
Recovery was very easy for me. DS was born at 11:30ish am and I was walking that night. I did not take pain meds once I left the hospital.
The part on the OR was very hard for me though. I am clausterphobic. I ended up freaking out and had to be put all the way under. Most are not like me, so you should be just fine.
having said that, try not to get too worked up over it. Easier said than done, I know. But you won't know what kind of experience you'll have until after the fact. I know several ladies who didn't require pain meds for more than a few days and were up and moving around in no time.

I had a C-Sec because of Placenta Previa. It wasn't bad at all and I was up and walking around within 6 hours of the operation.
Good Luck!
My c-section was extremely easy.
Some natural births are extremely easy.
It really is a case-by-case subject. Everything works out fine more times than not. Don't worry.
I think I had a pretty easy recovery. I didn't want a c-section at all, but I wouldn't dilate past 3 and was on Pitocin, which pushed my daughter's head down and made it all cocked to the side and in the end I ended up having a c-section. The catheter was I think the worst part, I think. And the staples afterward were uncomfortable and hard to get used to, but they were only in a week. I took pain meds, but didn't even have to take them as much as directed. I was able to EBF as soon as I got to hold my LO for the first time, which was 1 hour after surgery.
I can't say if recovery is worse than a vaginal delivery since I have never had one. But from some things I have heard, c-section recovery almost sounds easier... and I am not sure how I will go when I have another one.
