If you tore with your first

I had a 3rd degree tear with my first and was just wondering if you tore with number 2?  If you did was it the same or worse?  I am just being curious as to what to expect in the future.
Loving life with two boys who are 10 months apart and can't wait for team green baby to join us and thinking daily about our angel who was with us for a very short time. Re: If you tore with your first

  • I tore the same w/ my first as you, but less w/ second.  Doc said it was pretty much in the same place in one area, but didn't do as much damage.

  • 2nd degree tear with #1..2nd degree tear with #2. Same spot lol..I literally tore exactly down the old scar. I will say though that I feel like it healed better..my recovery was 10x better than it was with DD1.

  • I had a first degree tear with DD1. With DD2 I had a "skid mark" according to the doctor - not bad enough to call it a tear and needed no stitches.

  • For the mommas who tore, did you notice a tenderness on your "scar" during pregnancy? I feel that since getting pregnant I am more aware of the scar tissue, esp when using the bathroom.

  • I had a 1st degree tear with my 1st and a 2nd degree tear with my 2nd. I pushed DD out so much faster and her shoulders are what caused a worse tear.

I will say the recovery was pretty much the same though!

I didn't necessarily notice that the scar was more sensitive but I did notice more pressure down there as I got further along. I haven't noticed it this time around yet.

  • I didn't tear with #2 at all. Granted I had a really rough L&D with #1 and a MUCH easier time with #2. I did have a slight laceration where I tore with #1 when #2 came out but it wasn't even bad enough for stitches and healed right up.

Yep totally. Though I haven't noticed it all yet with my 3rd. It bothered me a lot with my 2nd though.

  • 3rd degree tear with #1, nothing with #2. The recovery was a million times easier. Seriously, the only thing that was sore the next day was my arms from pulling on the bed while pushing.
  • episiotomy that tore further with #1, second degree tear with #2 because he came so fast.

  • 2nd degree tear with DS who was 9lbs 1oz.  Had a 1st degree tear with DD who was 8lbs 12oz.  And recovery was 10 million times easier with LO#2.

  • I had a fourth degree with DS and the recovery was excruciating. My OB has suggested a C-Section to avoid the same thing happening again. We've decided to keep an eye on DDs head circumstance and try for a Vaginal if she is measuring smaller. HTH! I couldn't even imagine recovering all over again with two babies at home!

  • I did NOT tear with my second and my recovery was sooooo much better. I felt like I could run a marathon the next day...LOL. I was so surprised how great I felt after number 2. It made me realize just how bad and painful number 1 was!
  • I had an episiotomy and tore bad after DS.  My MW gave me another episiotomy with DD since the scar tissue was so thick and would have ripped horribly.  The recovery was so much easier the second time around.
  • Tore pretty bad with DD1- a bad 2nd degree. She was sunny-side up though, so that may be to blame.

DD2 came out in 2 pushes but I only had a very small tear- the dr said it was a fraction of the size of my scar from my first birth.

  • With DS1, I had an extensive 2nd degree tear that required a ton of stitches. Recovery was awful and it was months before I felt normal. With DS2, I had a minor 2nd degree tear and felt perfectly normal within about a week and a half. Such a huge difference!

  • My OB never told me what kind of tearing I experienced with either delivery. I know it happened both times, especially because both of my babies were OP (sunny side-up).

With #1, I definitely had some internal tearing along with external, and it took about 7 months for everything to completely heal.

With #2, I felt almost back to normal within a week. It really is true that the first child "paves the way", ha ha.

  • I had a 4th degree tear too with #1...still pregnant with #2.  I asked a couple of docs (former ob, current midwife, others since I had to see a bunch postpartum with #1) and no one recommended a C-section.  The first kiddo wasn't even big...6lbs, 3 oz.  Makes me wonder...but I can't imagine the recovery would be easier with a C-section...I just dread future incontinence issues that might be more likely with another bad tear.  The midwife stated that she would do a more lateral episiotomy this time if another bad tear looked likely but just basically told me not to think about it.  I thought someone might recommend a C-section so it's interesting that your OB did.
  • 1st degree tear with DD who was 6 lbs 3 oz. 2nd degree tear + periurethral tear with DS 9 lbs 3 oz. Recovery was still easier with the second though.

  • I had less than a 1st degree tear with #1 and a 1st degree tear with #2, so slightly worse. I tore in the exact same spot. My labors were very different (DS#1: 10 lbs, 27 hours and 3.25 hours of pushing; DS#2: 9lbs5oz, 2-day induction and 35 mins of pushing--the first day of my induction was a fail, I labored for 13 hours total on day 2). DS#2 also came out with his hand by his face.

  • I tore with both, worse with #2.  Recovery was actually much easier with #2 even though I tore worse.

I had a 2nd degree with DD#2 I do like you said esp when going potty, but I have been "aware" of the area since I had DD#2.  It's like if I cough I feel pressure or something down there.  i told the doc, but everything is where it's supposed to be so no issues.

Pray I don't tear again or since the main cause was DD came when I was only 9 cm dilated I pray I get to 10 before baby comes this time. LOL

  • 2nd degree tear with #1 and no tearing with #2.  Dr. said I had "chafing" with #2 and recovery was super easy with #2 but I only had a 3 hour labor.
