Landry has a consult with a physical therapist today...

She isn't walking yet.  She does pull up but, it takes lots of effort so, we are going to see a physical therapist this afternoon to be on the safe side.  The pedi doesn't usually give referrals until 18 months for walking but, there is just something there that makes both of us scratch our heads a little.  Send good thoughts our way that it's not serious...

  • Lots of good thoughts coming your way!  Hope the lady is just moving at her own pace!

FWIW, I think I just read (from 2shitzus) that it's erroneously to associate walking with the first 1 birthday, it's more like an 18 month milestone.

Yes, that's what I keep telling myself.  I read an article yesterday that said that 90% of 15 month olds are walking so, the mama in me just wants to check it out to be sure I'm doing everything I need to be doing.  Thanks Orange!!!!

  • I have 1 walking and 1 not. I found after B started doing things, J would be a monkey see monkey do and start things after. J will always be a bit slower and we were very worried, but it is turning out ok.  Hope things are ok with Landry!

  • My kids aren't walking yet and while 1 is really close the other... well, I hope he's walking by 15 mo, but I doubt he will. I have a lot of friends whose kids didn't walk until 15 months or a little later. The 12-15 mo range is just an average or a  guideline. One regular on PCE has a DD who didn't walk til 17.5 months, and they're all healthy/normal kids. GL though. I know it's nervewracking when the kiddos aren't "on time". I feel like my kids are behind on everything.
  • Good luck to you and Landry! Let us know how it goes! Mine are taking a few steps here and there but that's it. I think it will be sometime after 15 months before they really walk.
  • Glad you're trusting your gut.  People thought I was nuts for having O evaluated for speech at 15 months when he had one word (and more disturbing to me, didn't imitate us)  Well, there was something there, and at 5, it's still an issue. The mama gut knows best :)
  • I guess what has concerned me most is that when you are holding her under the arms and go to put her down she goes directly to her knees.  She won't bear any weight on her feet.  She's pulled up on chairs a couple of times but, typically won't put any weight on her feet unless she is on a soft surface like the sofa or in a chair.   I'm probably overreacting....just one of those things that has me worried.  Thanks for the kind words.  : )

I had the same issue with Emerson with speech-deep down feeling early on and we are dealing with a significant speech delay with her though, she's doing really well now.  I knew something was up and was right.  I have that same feeling something is up with Landry...I just can't shake it.  We'll see....

Asha did this for a long time, and it's really in just the last week or so that she's finally started to walk confidently. I was actually just thinking about you since you had responded to my worrying-about-walking post a while back, and wondering how Landry was doing.

Thinking lots of good thoughts for you!

Yup, this is basically what I said.  It's not an an 18 month milestone per se but our physical therapist said that walking anytime before 18 months is completely normal but for some reason, people just associate walking with 12 month olds when that in fact, walking right at 12 months is not the norm.

With that said, I can understand your concern about her not seeming to want to bear weight on her legs so I think it's definitely worth it just to talk to a P/T.  We started P/T at a year (my boys weren't even crawling at that point so that was the reason we started) and we learned so much so I think it never hurts to talk to someone.  Hope it goes well!

  • Good luck!  My girls were all early walkers, but my nephew didn't walk until about 16 months and didn't start crawling until 11-12 months, but at 19 months now he's doing awesome!
  • I hope everything goes well!
