Georgia Babies

Anybody need a babysitter... I'm gonna need a second job!

I got the estimate for my IVF drugs yesterday and it's $5538.86.  I cried!!!  That's about double what I was expecting.

So, I have a question for you IVF vets.  Did you use savings to pay for your cycle or get a loan?  If you got a loan who did you use and did you use it for meds too?

We have applied for the compassionate care program.  Please say a prayer that we are accepted as it will cover most of the cost of meds. Not sure if we qualify though.

I knew this was going to cost us but now that we are writing checks it's freaking me out!!!  Thanks for listening... I just needed to vent

  • Wow.  I knew it was expensive but yeah... I would be freaking out too.  I was going to suggest putting it on some sort of rewards card so at least you get some frequent flyer miles or something for your babymoon :-)

  • Whoah, that's just for the meds?  No experience, just wanted to offer continued support.

If that's the estimate, maybe someone got something wrong and it'll come out to be less.

  • That is a big number. Any chance of getting donated meds again for at least part of it? Still just sending you lots of positive thoughts!

  • I don't know how this works, but can you put money in your flex account? Also if you really want to get a second job o wait tables or brand St. High end restaurant. I made great money doing that! I really hope you can do it. I think this is important enough that I would look into taking a loan against your 401k. You pay yourself back with interest.. Noah and I did this 10 years ago when we bought our house and we gave ourself two years to pay it back. Good luck sweety!
  • I was wondering too if you could use your flex spending account.  this would allow you to get the meds tax free.  The limit is $2500 per year so maybe you could do $2500 this year in Dec and $2500 early next year in Jan?

HappyIam,  If you can do flex spending check your limits.  Our limit is $5000 per year for health care related flex spending.  We just received the 2012 information Monday.

I have a friend that I believe payed 11,000 for IVF.  I think they just had to pay for it out of pocket with savings.

  • Some companies or insurance programs will pay for the first round of IVF.  Worth looking into.

    Good luck!!!
