So over the past month I noticed a lot of hair loss. I thought it was just a post partum thing, but decided to check my blood anyways. It turns out my thyroid isn't working properly. I was lucky to schedule an appointment with an endocrinologist. So I have what they call post partum thyroiditis! How great, ha? Apparently 5% of the women get this within the first year after the delivery. So I am the lucky one! There is nothing I could do now, unfortunately. The doc. said that in most cases it goes back to normal after 6ish monts, but in some cases it turns into Hypothyroidism. So for now we just do blood tests every 2 monts to monitor the thyroid. No medications. Lets hope I won't get even luckier to become Hypo. Meanwhile, I have no idea what to do with the hair loss. Have you ever heard of this condition? Any idea what to do not to become bold?
Re: Great! I get all the good stuff lately! :(
No advice, but I'm sorry.
My Blog

I have no advise but one of my girlfriends said her hair fell out a lot after the baby and that it did grow back in. Did your Dr say if it will grow back once your thyroid corrects itself? I hope that you don't get hypo too.
Take care, JM

The hair loss is normal. It happens to most people after the birth of the baby. Really it's the loss of all the new hair that grew when you are pg and completely normal. I lost tons after the birth of both my sons and I still have tons.
I also got hypothyroidism after the birth of my first and no, it didn't level out. I have to take thyroid medicine probably for the rest of my life. Again, it's not really that bif of a deal and I don't feel any different (only when I don't take my meds after a couple of days)
Hugs. Read about the hair loss though, super common, annoying, but not a lasting problem.
This. I was hypothyroid before I had babies, and it does suck to have to take meds every day, BUT its a completely dealable ailment, though it might not feel that way now. Fingers crossed that it doesn't last for you, and I'm sorry you're experiencing this, its never fun to have someone tell you there's something "wrong" with you.
Thank you girls. It is kind a encouraging to know that the hair eventually grows back. And I know that there are much worst things than this thyroid issue, but it just came all of a sudden. I wish I didn't do the blood test, considering that there is nothing I can do now. The weird thing is that I don't have any other symptoms of Hyperthyroidism (my thyroid is producing more hormone than necessary). Just the hair loss which can be really contributed to the PP condition.
Anyways...I feel better already as I had some time to process and swallow everything. Thanks for your support!
