Has anyone had to have their son re-circumcised? I took DS to a pediatric urologist and he recommended having it done. He said that the dr. didn't take enough skin off in the initial circumcision and now the skin has reattached:( It breaks my heart to have to put DS through this:(:(
Re: Re-circumcision ??
I usually lurk here, but my son was re-circumcised in June at 9 months old. I was nervous about it, but the doctors and nurses were wonderful and helped me relax the morning of by telling me exactly what was going to happen. My son was upset when he woke up from the anethesia, but as soon as we left the hospital and got in the car he was fine. In fact, later in the day he was pretty much back to normal! The pediatric urologist we saw told us the same things yours told you about not having enough skin taken off. My little guy did great and I'm sure yours will do if you choose to have it done.
Thanks so much ladies! Good to know that DS is not alone in this:( I asked about just pulling the skin back instead of having surgery. he said that he could do that, but was taking more of a risk of infection and re-attaching later.
Hearing your stories makes me want to take the "pull it back" approach instead of surgery! Maybe I'll go and get a 2nd opinion.
This! Plus, he has a "fat pack" that makes it look like not enough skin was taken, when it's really just "turtling". (does that make sense?)
OP, please get a second opinion before you get the surgery. You don't want to end up in the took-off-too-much camp.
So glad to hear that your son did so well! I wanted to get DS in sooner but I had to wait 9 months just to get in to see him:( And they can't get him in for surgery until March!!! The doctor said that the healing time was no more than a week and that we will not have any more problems with the skin re-attaching. Thank you for sharing your story:)
I totally agree about the "taking off too much" part. My son is almost 22 months old and has been walking since he was 9 and 1/2 months old. He is on the skinny side also so he doesn't have a "fat pad" anymore. But I agree about the 2nd opinion thing. Better safe than sorry!

So your ped said that when your LO is out of diapers it will stop reattaching? Why does he think it keeps reattaching while in diapers and that it won't happen when he is out of them? Sorry for all of the questions.....It just boggles my mind that this happens in the first place and its more common then it should be. My ped always said NOT to pull the skin back, that it would just come loose on its own. and the ped urologist says that it won't loosen up on its own and that surgery is the way to go......Ugh!!! so many different opinions:( Thank you for sharing your sons story.
Yes we had to go through this back in February when our son was 8 months old. When he was circumcised at birth, my ob didn't do it right the first time. He explained to us it was just cosmetic and that he'd be ok. As he got older, when we went for checkups our pediatrician would have to pull his skin down and showed us the adhesions he was getting. We didn't know that was happening until the appts, and would have to watch closely after that. During diaper changes we would have to pull the extra skin down and look for the tidbits of diaper that would get down in there. Poor lil man. We finally decided that we would talk to a pediatric urologist since he also had an inguinal hernia that needed to be fixed. Our p urologist was awesome from the moment we met him. He explained that if we didn't get the circumcision fixed that his lil penis would bend over once he got hard ons, and I wasn't gonna let that happen to him. The extra skin on the bottom of his penis would pull down and needed to be fixed. Or as the p urologist said" he needed his pencil sharpened". So we had a 2 for 1 surgery where his circumcision was fixed and his hernia was fixed. He's now 17 months old and a happy lil man. I never thought people would go through this til I started reading alot of similar stories about lil guys having to be recirc. I think it's worth it and glad we did it.
We had a morning surgery and was home by afternoon on a Friday. By Sunday we were fine and couldn't tell he had surgery.
