Northern California Babies

**ladipale** & Sac foodies!

Ok, what's your suggestions for my bday dinner Thursday?!?!  I don't want to go too, too expensive but we have a little bit to play with.  My old standby is OneSpeed (which I LOVE) and a nightcap after at SoCal's or the Hilltop (I'm a dive bar girl).  Happy birthday to me= shuffle board or darts with my DH!

The kids are going to be GONE (my mom is taking them until Friday night) so we have no curfew Surprise but DH does have to work in the morning and he's not a stay-up-late guy.  Here's what's on my radar currently:

More standbys:

33rd Street, Ernestos, Riverside Clubhouse, Tower

Places I've been but DH hasn't:

Enotria, Banderas, Roxy.

I only went to Enotria once just recently and I LOVED it, I only had a salad and I'd love to have a whole meal there, downside is it's farther away but who cares really?!?!

New places I've been wanting to try:

Sandra Dee's, Cafeteria 15L, Zinfandel Grill,  ?!?!?!?

Side note:  Man, we are LUCKY there are so many awesome places to eat in the Sacto!  I love it here!

Any suggestions are welcome!  I'm at work so I can't respond a ton but I'll check in later.

Re: **ladipale** & Sac foodies!

  • One Speed is awesome sauce, but its so loud and kid friendly!

My standbys for nice dinners out are:

Ella ($$$),  Taylor's Kitchen, Grange (there was a $25 gift certificate in the latest Sactown Maganize), Magpie (and then drinks at Shady Lady!) These are all local, seasonal menus. Ella has the most amaze-balls cocktails ever.

Have you been to Sellands? holy yum! Its a cafe style but so, so, so good!

  • I agree with L about Ella as a choice. One of my favorite restaurants by far. Also, K Street is being reopened to traffic at 4pm on Thursday. They having a big celebration - area restaurants and bars (including Ella) are offering specials and there's supposed to be entertainment, etc. Could be fun to go to and if you're anything like me (which I know you are), I'd claim that the celebration was all for my birthday. :)

Also, if you're thinking Ernesto's and feeling like Mexican, then I'll suggest Zocalo. I like it better than Ernesto's.

  • Mmm, Zocalo is not my favorite.  I think it's too expensive and portions are small (oink oink!), Plus, my mom and I ate there once and then the next day she totally got fraudulent credit card charges, I think it was the waiter.  Left a bad taste in my mouth about it!

I forgot about Magpie, haven't been there.  I have been to Shady Lady and I liked it.

I think maybe I should do Ella... I just texted my DH about it.  I think I deserve to be fancy!  I'm only 35 once!  :)

I also forgot about Firehouse.  Wdyt Ella vs. Firehouse?  We've only been to Firehouse once and it was for DH's holiday party so it was a set menu, it was great, I'd love to try it as a normal diner and not as "wedding food". lol.

    Thoughts?

I've only been there for work events where I'm not paying, so I've never paid attention to the prices. I'll have to keep this in mind if I ever decide to go outside of work functions.

I've never been to Firehouse, so I can't give you a rec one way or the other. I hope whatever you do, it's fabulous!!

  • I've  never been to Firehouse either. But, we also love Ten22 in old sac, same owners as firehouse, not quite as expensive. Amazing service. we had ellie's baptism lunch there.

  • Enotria...SO good!!! Or, Mulvaney's-Also delish. We went there for lunch on our Anniversary and they fancied up our dessert... I would not recommend Sandra Dees-not nice enough for your birthday IMO!

    Happy Early Birthday-Enjoy!

  • I think I might be sold on Ten22!

Looks like a good compromise, not quite so $$ but more adult-y than OneSpeed. And they have Skinny Cocktails! Just what I need!! :)

It says the have a 3 course dinner Thursdays for $25? I wonder what that's all about! I might give them a call... thank you ladies, all of this chat is making me excited and want to have date night after date night!  Keep it coming!

  • Unfortunately I am not much help. DH wants to try a new pizza place for his bday on Thursday.
  • We enjoy The Broiler, Dawson's, and Fat's.  Firehouse and McCormick & Schmicks are yummy too.  Rio City in Old Sac is decent.  Love your idea of Socal's afterwards for a drink.  Always a good time there.

  • Yay!  Have fun :)

I just wanted to mention that I've been to Zinfandel Grille a few times and we always leave there thinking we just had the most amazing meal.  Very, very good food.  We had Firehouse for lunch once, and I would love to go back for dinner.  I'd also like to bookmark this post and make it a goal to try every place mentioned in here.  Mmmm... ;)

  • This makes me sad about our dinner of Nugget take-out...now I want to go out! :)

I LOVE the Firehouse! It's our go-to for special occasions, but it is really pricey. If you're up for a fancy dinner, it's 100% worth every penny....my mouth is watering! They also have amazing service, so you will certainly be pampered.

Paesanos is right across from Zocolo and it's yummy, and a little more laid back of a crowd.

I second Rozy - they have the best zucchini chips!

The Grange is great, but can also be pricey.

    Lucca is good.

If you like sushi, Tamaya is my favorite.

I'm excited to check out One Speed and Ella after reading these comments!

  • I'm also a Roxy's fan, and you can't beat those zucchini chips!

  • We usually go to Fat's (the original on L) for our special no-kid nights. There is also a great place right next door to Zocalo's... I cannot remember the name and it's driving me crazy. It's really good and decent prices. have fun!
