Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I was compared to Mrs. Duggar b/c DD1 was a NICU baby

DD1 was born 2 months early due to severe Pre-e the day after Michelle had Josie. So, I have always felt a tad connected to Josie and have felt incredibly blessed that DD1 didn't have to struggle for life the way Josie has.  It breaks my heart to think about all the what ifs.

Any who, my cousin text me this morning to tell me about #20 on the way.  I told her my feelings about it being selfish and irresponsible.  She then came back and said that her having # 20 is no different than me have DD2 since I had complications with DD1 and she was a NICU baby.  WTF!!!!  First off, I have 2, not 20.  Second, I was on BC and nursing.  DD2 (while very wanted and loved) was a BC fail, not a failure to close my legs and tell DH to go jerk off instead.

My response to her was:  While I agree that they are a caring and loving family who are teaching their kids how to survive on their own, I don't feel it is in the kids best interest to possibly lose their mother to complications of mass multiple pregnancies and births.  A body can only take so much.  It's highly possible that her body will no longer be able to take the strains she is putting it in and then her whole heard of kids will be left motherless.  My situation with Z is different in that I was taking precautions to prevent pregnancy.  I praise God for the BC fail that we had because otherwise she would be here.  But, Michelle is doing nothing to prevent subsequent pregnancies.  While God has been good and blesses her with SO MANY wonderful beautiful babies, there comes a point where you have to put yourself aside and just do what's right for those you already have.

She hasn't responded and that's almost pissing me off more.  Would you take offense to this?

  • The problem is you think that they are choosing to keep having kids. While in a way they're choosing to follow this religion and no one is forcing them to practice that religion, in their eyes it probably wasnt a choice to have more children or not. BC or preventing pregnancy in any form is not an option for them because of their faith.

  • 1. Your cousin was out of line.

    2. Michelle Duggar can have as many kids as she wants. Public opinion obviously doesn't matter to her. I hope she and baby are healthy, and then I hope she goes through menopause.

  • I probably would be offended. Just because 1 baby was premature does not mean that all your babies will be premature. Michelle Duggar's case is different. She's had 19 kids, multiple  c/s, and multiple VBACs. She is also 45 and well past the age where having kids is considered "safe". Josie's situation was due to her having so many kids. I don't think the two situations presented are anything alike.

  • My issue is that people are using her pre-e problem as a reason to say she shouldn't have more kids.  Do I think she should stop?  Yes.  Do I think she should stop because her last baby ended up in the NICU because of pre-e?  No.  Just like you didn't cause your pre-e, she didn't either and I don't consider that a problem brought on by having too many kids.  People are implying that if you had pre-with a pregnancy you should give up any idea of having more kids.

  • She's a jerk.  And besides, if you have pre-e with #1, it is highly unlikely you'll get it with #2 if you are having kids with the same man.  So you are in NO way like the duggar idiot.

  • It wasn't your fault that you had Pre-e just like it wasn't Michelle Duggars, the fact that it was your 1st vs 20th pregnancy really doesn't matter either, you both have a chance at going through the same thing. Even if your second pregnancy resulted in another preemie you'd love that baby just the same.

I agree 20 Children is crazy, but it's not like they can't care for them, and I think they grown up in a happy home.

Michelle is 45, with that comes certain risks, but you don't hear people freaking out on older movie stars who are all having babies very late in life who are doing the same thing.

That will be her only saving grace at this point.  While I couldn't care less about how many kids she has, I do think that once you are putting your life and the life of your child at risk, changes have to be made.  If you don't believe in BC then get a hobby.  Whether she had pre-e or not, she as multiple reasons why this is no longer safe.  I just don't see why my cousin made this comparison.

Yeah, my whole thing is that there are MANY red flags waiving at this woman.  It's not just the pre-e scare. I had no prior health concerns in the least.  Thankfully, I did not have pre-e with DD2.

    ITA w/ this.

I also hope she goes through menopause. If she doesn't believe in BC then she should chart or something. But I guess she probably doesn't believe in that either. I think she really wants to have more babies & I think its really strange regardless of the reasons.

  • Wow. I'm sorry she said anything like that. I think she's entitled to her opinions. But I think she also was WAY out of line.
  • OP- She was out of line.  Yes she can have her own opinion, but that doesn't mean she has to voice it.

I wonder if Michelle can even turn down having sex with Jim Bob (seriously who names a kid that??) according to their religion.  I doubt that is actually discussed in church ever.  But it is a way of preventing pregnancy too.
