Babies on the Brain

Oh my idiot husband

He lost his cell phone this weekend.

It's an iPhone and it's issued though his job.  It is not password protected and has all his work email on it.

He got to work on Monday and his entire email inbox (that he uses as his to-do list) was deleted.  There were about 90 emails in there.

So he spent the morning going through his trash can looking for the emails he needed, making a list, and getting a new phone.

He already has the new phone password protected and has installed the app that can track your phone if you lose it.  So at least he learned something from this whole mess.

I would feel sorry for him but he was an idiot and lost it at a bar, so I don't.

  • I'm surprised that the company didn't require the password lock. If we have personal phones with our company email accessible, the company automatically changes the settings on the phone to require the lock.

  • Idk if the iphone has an app for this, but my droid has an app for when you lose your phone or it gets stolen. You can go on your computer and delete everything personal from your phone and stop service on it. That might be something to look into for your h's iphone.

    Yeah, this.

Sounds like YH's company IT dept is a bunch of bumbling idiots. In order for us to be compliant w/ global IT security regulations, we have to have encryption and password locks on any devices where company data can be accessed-- blackberries, laptops, everything.  And even if you aren't in an industry where security compliance is an issue, it's just common sense to encrypt work emails!

  • He should download iGotcha.  Take a pic of the person messing with the phone and emails it to you.

Phones get lost.  It happens.  It was dumb of your H to leave it in a bar, but this is also the reason for password protection.  I can't believe his IT dept would allow him to have an iPhone and not have it better protected than that.

This.  A lot of companies can remotely wipe a phone, too.  That was a pretty bad decision on your DH's company not to have any policies in place.

  • Yikes. I don't know what kind of company your H works for but I hope I'm not one of their customers.

Construction management company.  So unless you are building a $20million+ building then no, probably not one of his customers.

But yeah, they should have required him to password protect his email.
