Car seat Tightener

Did you use them? Our towns police station installed the car seat yesterday and they said they are a waste. The police officer said he has been installing car seats for 12 yrs and never installs the tightener, they are useless.

 What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Re: Car seat Tightener

  • Are you referring to the locking clip?  The only time you need to install that is if you are using a seatbelt that doesn't lock when you pull it out quickly.  Newer cars don't have seatbelts like that so it isn't commonly needed.  My mom had an older car with seatbelts that didn't lock so we had to use it in her car, but every other car I've ever installed in has had a locking seatbelt.

  • I have a newer van with built in lock offs, but have installed them in vehicles I know don't have locking seat belts if the car seat doesn't have built in lock-offs. Most newer seats do. I'm a huge fan of the anchor system and wish they'd put them in every vehicle.

  • My SUV is a 09 so it must be fine.

    Thanks

  • They actually used it in my car.  DH has an Acura Integra and they didn't need it in his car.  I have an 07 Elantra and they needed to use it for mine.  The problem was that my seatbelt was tight and would pull up the base on one side, so it was never fully stable.  They put the metal clip thing on and it is LOCKED in place.  It worked like a charm.
