Cytotec not working!

I am getting so fustrated. My body hates me! I swear!

My OBGYN called in the RX for Cytotec yesterday. I did 2 doses (3 pills by mouth every 6 hours) and nothing happened. Just some slight cramping and a backache. Nothing horrible and only bleed when I wiped. I talked to her last night and she called in another 2 doses for me today and upped the dosage (4 pills by mouth every 8 hours). I am 2 hours in and feel 100% fine. I am so annoyed. I am so sick of waiting and just ready at this point to put this behind me and move on. And I really don't want to do the D&C.

Has this happened to anyone else??

I don't have personal experience with this but have heard other stories about the Cytotec SUDDENLY working in a very fast way after the doses catch up on you. Hang in there, I"m sorry you're going through this.

My experience with Cytotec was a little different but did not work properly. I did have horrible cramping and bleeding. I thought I had passed everything but ended up having the miscarriage on my own a week after I took the Cytotec. I thought I was losing too much blood so I went back to the Dr the following day. I wanted to make sure I had passed everything, but was told based on the ultrasound I still had a lot of blood and clots left in my uterus. I then was prescribed Misoprostol remove the blood. A month later my hcg levels are still above 5 and still experiencing bleeding. I hope your experience works out better than mine and you do not have to have a D&C and the second dose of Cytotec works.

Don't give up yet. I used 400mcg of Cytotec vaginally on Wednesday and it took 14 hours to start spotting. I repeated the dose on Thursday night... nothing. I repeated the dose on Sunday night and finally on Monday morning I passed all of the tissue. I never had bad cramps or bleeding. I thought for sure I was headed for a d&c. So glad it didn't happen like that. I got a -hpt last night and it's been less than 2 weeks.

I took cytotec with my first loss although I don't remember the dosage. I think I took two pills that am and two more in the pm. Within 20 minutes of taking the first dose I started bleeding somewhat heavily. But I never cramped. I had an appointment around 4pm with my OB to check my progress and by then I was barely bleeding and the doc said my cervix hadnt even opened. With the pm dose I remember a couple of really strong cramps and the bleeding picked up slightly for about 30 minutes. Then nothing the rest if the night. I had an ultrasound in the morning which clearly showed I hadn't passed a thing. I ended up with a d&c.

I tried it again with my second loss and it didn't work that time either and even when I was at risk at having another d&c because my betas weren't dropping the cytotec didn't work that time either.

I've heard most people have better luck when it's taken vaginally. I took it orally the first two times but vaginally the third.

I hope it works for you and you don't end up needing the d&c. I really didn't want the d&c either but in the end it wasn't bad at all. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Well girls. Yesterday's doses didn't do anything again. So here I sit. I am fairly upset. I just want this done and over with.

I will have to call my dr. tomorrow and see what she says to do. Maybe I can wait for my body to do it naturally (but my betas weren't dropping so I am guessing it would take awhile) or I can take another set of pills on Saturday. I really can't miss work again.

I am waiting on my cytotec to work too. And, waiting on my Dr to call me back.

Will you share what your Dr says?

Also, were you spotting when you took the pills? I did hear that if you dont have any symptoms that it sometimes takes longer to get started.

I took cytotec 13 days ago. I took 400mcg every 4 hours. I see that some of you are taking it more spaced out - not sure if that makes a difference. I started cramping/having contractions about 4 hours into it. I took a nap (with the help of some excedrin PM) and woke up at my 3rd dose time. Bleeding pretty good, but nothing yet. I then woke up 2 hours past my 4th and final dose (14 hours after my first pills) and passed everything. That lasted 2 hours and then I was good to go. Small clots with slight cramps for 4 days. Now I'm all done, 13 days later.

I took the pills the afternoon after my confirmation u/s had been that morning. My body was still hanging onto the pregnancy that had stopped 2 weeks earlier.

I hope that information helps. I'm sorry you are going through this. I know how anxious we are when we just want to move on.

Baroo - I didn't have any spotting or bleeding before I took the pills. I hope you have heard from your Dr and things work for your shortly. I am however spotting as of today a brown discharge. I feel fairly happy about it and hope that my body is finally getting the hint.

I told the Dr. that nothing happened with that 2nd day of medicine. No cramping or bleeding. She is very discouraged as well and just can't believe it. She really is very surprised. She said I can continue to wait it out and see if anything happens naturally now. She also said I can do another dose of the medicine - this time she wants it done vaginally instead of orally. She said it works better this way. She said I can either do it myself or go into the office and she will do it for me. I told her I wanted to wait til the weekend to do another dose so I wouldn't have to miss another day of work and she said that it is fine to wait. She also said a D&C is still possible if I wanted - which as y'all know - I do not.

So we are waiting til Thursday to see if anything happens by itself. She is calling me Thursday. If nothing happens by Thursday - I can go into her office Friday and she can insert them for me and it would be a very long night for me or I she can call the RX in and I can try to do it myself on Saturday AM. I almost want her to do it to make sure it is done properly and I know that it was done right.

I am just really hoping and praying my body takes care of it itself by Thursday. I will be so happy.

Thanks for your experience. I finished my pills Sunday about 5 and started spotting, Monday night it finally picked up, but backed off this morning, today I stayed home from work and am trying to avoid laying around (hoping to get things moving by gravity?) Anyway, I hope this happens soon.

Thank you, I am spotting a little too- at least it has gotten a bit more red. I was told to wait til Thursday too (I am off work on Friday) I plan on inserting Thursday evening and going to bed.

I wish you luck- I wish us both luck on this. I dont want another d&c either. Even though my last one was fine, I just dont want one.

No new news from me. Still waiting with just some brown discharge. Have yet to see any red and feel any cramping. This long drawn out process is starting to get to me - I am sick of waiting. I want to be done already!

My 2nd attempt worked. Dr ended up having me not wait til Thursday (because I was spotting and I didnt have to work today)

I took 4 pills vaginally at 6pm and by 8 I was having light cramps, by 10 they picked up a bit. It then went from there with the hardest part being about 11ish and over by 12:20am. I then felt so much relief and the pain was gone in an instant. I stayed up and passed some blood and clots, when it was just blood flow I went to bed.

PM me if you want specific details. I also dont want to scare you, but it got pretty bad pain wise. However, hearing what to expect from some friends here and on TTCAL helped prepare me and I didnt freak out.

I hope your next dose works and is easy and quick for you.

Baroo - I am so happy that the 2nd dose worked for you and you can move forward.

I ended up getting very antsy the other afternoon and called the Dr. to see if she could squeeze me in so she could insert the pills for me. I wanted to make sure it was done correct and that it would work.

So I ended up going in yesterday - she did another u/s and everything looked the exact same as 9 days ago. She inserted the pills at 3:30 and I was on my way. I was bleeding by 6:30. Pain and cramping started at about 7:20 or so. Everything had passed by 7:45 and I felt the same as you. SO much relief and pain gone so fast after. I did however throw up right away after it happened. I too stayed up and passed more blood and clots. I went to bed about 1am and got up frequently and didn't sleep well. Still passing some clots when I go to the bathroom today but barely anything on my pad.

It was much easier and faster then I had expected. I am so thankful for a decent experience once it actually worked.
