Anyone's LO with duodenal ulcers?

Hi there!  My DS has numerous GI issues combined with many dev. delays and had his first endoscopy on Friday.  The dr. was primarily doing this procedure to biopsy his esophagus to test for celiac; as well as check for other cause for his GI issues.  When he was done he told us that he found numerous large ulcers in Luca's small intestine.  He explained that this is really rare and unexpected in an 18 month old, and would let us know what the biopsies showed.

My question is; Has anyone else had this turn up in their toddler?  If so, what was the cause and outcome?

TIA!!!

Re: Anyone's LO with duodenal ulcers?

  • If he was checking for celiac, the duodenum is where he'd biopsy - not the esophagus.  I'm sure he took biopsies from several different places to check for a variety of things.  It could be that your DS has a lot of duodenal damage from celiac; if that's the underlying cause it will heal once he's been on a 100% gluten free diet for some time.  When I had my biopsy there was extensive damage to my small intestine.  I've been gluten free for almost 2 years now and my life and health is SO much better.  I pray that's all your son is dealing with too!  Please update us when you get the results!
