Baby Clothing for February Baby

Hi Ladies, I'm new to this area and a FTM so I have no idea what to dress my baby in. What type of clothes should I have on hand for the first few months? Also what should I expect to dress the baby in in the summer considering the climate here? Should he still be in long sleeves for most of the summer? I'm looking at buying some clothes on CL and a lot of them are 6mo and I want to stock up on long sleeved items but not sure if that is right for the area.

  • We do a lot of layers. Especially in the spring.  It was pretty warm this summer though.

  • Spring is rainy and in the 50s.  We'll get a few nice days here and there, but you will definitely want long sleeves and layers for a new baby.  The weather warms up in May, is is typically around the 60s-low 70s.  Summer is 70s/80s, with the occassional spike into the 90s.  You won't need long sleeves in the summer.

Clothing stores clear out their winter merchandise in January and February.  Don't wait until after the baby comes to stock up on warm clothing, or you may be out of luck.  I had a Feb. baby and had a hard time finding warm jammies after she was born.  You'll want fleece jammies through May.

  • Definitely layers.  We kept Lucy in long sleeves through June (usually layered with a cute patterned short sleeve on top).  I always had long sleeve white onesies no matter the season.  They were good for nighttime if she didn't wear them during the day.

At night, we layered a onesie, socks, fleece footy pj's, and a sleep sack.

  • my feb baby turned out to be a Jan baby, but we kept him long sleeves and footed pants for the first few months.  I loved the carters outfits that had long sleees and then the pants that have feet so that his little toes stayed warm.  Lots of warm blankets to put over him in his infant seat.  I think you will find that your not really outside in the cold except to run in and out of stores.  We had a really crappy summer this year and I kept him in long sleeves for most of the summer, or it if had short sleeves I had little jackets to go over them.  I didn't leave the house with him in bare feet unless it was really warm.  I did really use the sun hats I had because if I had him in a carrier strapped to me the sun would get in his eyes on a nice day.

  • I agree with the layers.  Long-sleeved onesies go under and with everything!  Old Navy and Target sell some reasonable fleecy pants and hoodies that mix and match well, and I also often put some BabyLegs underneath whatever E was wearing if we were going to be out in the cold for any period of time. I didn't really like the pants that had the feet attached, because our daughter had really long legs and they never fit her very well (but maybe we have an oddly disproportionate child) even if the matching shirts fit.

  • Layers, baby legs, fleece and good socks are how I got through C's first winter. He is a November baby but it was still cold.
