Dance moms: costume sizing help plz

I'm looking at the order form for DD1's recital costume and I don't know what size to get. We have to order it now, and measure ourselves! It's $77 total and we're out of luck if we order the wrong size! And the recital is mid-June. Ugh.

DD's measurements are:
chest: 21.5
waist: 20.5
Hip: 21.5
Girth* (listed as most important measurement): I measured 40.2 the first time and 38 the second time. Ummmm????

So now the sizing: I bolded DD's closest size

Ex Sm
chest 21-23
waist 19-21
Hip 22-24 (DD's not even on the chart)
Girth 37-38

Sm
chest 24-25
waist 21-22
hip 25-26
girth 40-42

So do I go with the Sm and risk it falling off her hips? Not to mention to give a little for growth... I'm guessing yes and get it altered if we need to. Yippee, even more $$ to spend on a 10 minute dance! Typing it out actually helps more then their chart did, I just hope I measured right!

    I would order the small and have it altered if need be - better safe than sorry.

    def get the small. if its too big in the hips you can safety pin (or tac it with a few stitches if time allows or if it would poke your DD) on the inside of the costume by the hips. it might look odd if you scrutinize it but on stage she will look great =]
